Minecraft maps not loading?

Last night, Minecraft seemed to be working on my laptop for my friend. I came back to it and tried to load one of my maps. It showed the usual stuff, chunks, building, etc, but after everything loaded the window simply closed. It does this for every map, and when I create a new one. Has anyone had this issue? How can I play minecraft again?

Small update, another friend cannot run it on his laptop either.
I've updated Java, I've updated my servers. Nothing is working.

Do you have any mods installed?

Can you update minecraft from where you are? If so, can you try deleting the Bin folder from the Minecraft folder? It should try to fix it.

If your friend updated it normally from the official server and it still didn't work, that probably won't help though...
