Why does this make you angry? I don't see any negative aspects to this at all. Id you don't like pointless achievements, you ignore them. If you do, you're happy to get some more. What's the issue?
I imagine that if you were a person who genuinely and truly cares about achievements, who is proud of their gamerscore and sees having a high number as an achievement, it'd be pretty fucking annoying to have someone's grandmother equal your score just by playing mah-jong and various other simplistic time-wasters.

Not a sane point of view really, given that anyone who cares that much about achievements can't be well-adjusted (though looking at sites like xbox360achievements.org, there are a lot of them) but it makes sense within that limited worldview.

But how is the Mutliplayer?
Multiplayer minesweeper is actually very competitive, though it requires some travel. How do you feel about deserts?

Ah, good to see they're keeping with modern achievements being more of an insult than anything by making one for opening the game. Maybe Win8 will have a whole set of OS achievements. "You turned on your PC" "You got the achievement for turning on your PC" ect.
"Blue screen rage" "You punched your monitor when you got your first Windows 8 bluescreen"
Yeah, this is not going to end well.

This is absolutely ridiculous! The only upside to this is that they aren't making you pay for it. Otherwise I'd lose all faith in Microsoft.

Seems quite silly.
You're quite right, I'm overreacting. I guess I'll just ignore the aspect if I get Windows 8.

Don't do it! Windows 8 looks pretty bad.
I've actually heard from a friend at Microsoft that it's pretty good. He said it from a non-Microsoft employee POV. Plus if I buy a computer in November (which is very probable) it's probably going to be included.

Eh, I used it for a while, and Metro's assumption of a touchscreen interface is just too annoying. Hell, Microsoft is even bringing out a 'Recommended for Windows 8 [http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/features/windows/3374476/windows-8-touch-mouse-what-you-need-know/]' mouse series and they all have touch surfaces. I understand the need for "new OS = new hardware" when the existing hardware is old, but if I have to add more stuff to the mouse to accommodate the interface design, there's something wrong. It would be like making something require a middle-click.

...Why? No really, why? I don't see any reason whatsoever for Microsoft to spend time and money on this.

Hmm... achievement for winning in 1 second (because you know how to alter the record score file) or am I going to get in trouble now for that.

Minesweeper already has achievements on Windows Phone, and it attaches to your Xbox Live account, but nobody has one of those but me. They aren't all useless...but there should have been some for completing difficulties under certain times, or for beating hard 10 times and whatnot.
