Miracleman Annual #1 To Have Never Before Seen Grant Morrison Story

The issue will also feature work by Jeff Smith and Mike Allred. So, like, yay.

Now that Marvel owns Miracleman (nee Marvelman) outright, the publisher is finally getting around to exploiting that property properly. And first up, Marvel is putting out an duology of brand new Miracleman tales. Set for release this December, All-New Miracleman Annual #1 explores the character from both sides, beginning with his origins as a thinly veiled <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/136928-Perhaps-The-Only-Copy-Left-Of-Marvelman-26-Sell-On-Ebay-For-4-000>Captain Marvel knock-off called Marvelman, then skipping ahead to the 1980s rebranding as Miracleman, at which time the character was on the forefront of the then-new deconstructionist movement in comics.

What to expect? Peter Milligan and Madman creator Mike Allred collaborate on a brand new Miracleman story that pays homage to the Marvelman days, featuring Miracleman, Kid Miracleman and Young Miracleman. The big sell, however, is a story with art by Marvel's Joe Quesada, based on a script written 20 years ago by Grant Morrison that was never published. Finally, it boasts variant covers by Quesada and Bone creator Jeff Smith.

Here's the full press release, and below, enjoy a gallery of preview art from the issue.

Too bad Mike Allred's art makes your eyes bleed and run screaming.

And Pete Milligan ruined Hellblazer.

It sounds like a book I can't wait to miss.

Mostly agree on Milligan, but even though Mike Allred the writer makes me barf, I love his art. Especially his hired gun work, like the Prez issue of Sandman.

Milligen, Quesada, and Allred I can take every once and a great while, but Morrison is by far one the most over-rated writers in comics.

What I want to know is when are they'll publish the compilations with Moore and Gaiman's run on the character?

You know what? Scratch that... I got tired of all the litigation surrounding it and now Marvel's good will to release it and downloaded it for my iPad.
Might as well just read the damn thing...

I consider Miracle/Marvelman to be Alan Moore's greatest work, so I have a few misgivings about this.

First of all, that Morrisson was originally vetoed by Moore. I'm curious to read it, but it still feels disrespectful. I wonder if it'll be the awesome coherent All-Star Superman GM or the insane and over rated The Filth GM?

Secondly, calling this a creative paring of Miligan and GM is kind of BS. Marvel bought the rights to the script and Miligan decided he wanted to draw it. It's not a creative team.

Edit-can't read.

Morrisons fun, but he just makes things needlessly overcomplicated more than anything else. Final Crisis is still a pain in the arse to read, even the collected edition jumps about like a energetic dog from page to page. Fuck they had to release two extra issues of Batman later to explain why he disapeeared/reapeared for no reason in the story.

Or the subsequent time travel story? Batman travelling through time, sounds fun! Oh but wait there's this bizzarre thing going on with omega energy and this library at the end of time and an insane Batman gambit that makes no sense and I've gone cross eyed.

His run on Action comics wasn't fun either, seeing as Supes was this insufferable jerk and not Superman. I just wish he'd go back to insane-but-in-a-good-way stuff like A Serious House on Serious Earth.
