Mirror's Edge Catalyst Delayed Into June

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1314/1314685.jpgEA has announced that Mirror's Edge Catalyst won't release in May as planned.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst will now release on June 7, rather than the originally scheduled May 26. In a post on the game's official site [http://www.mirrorsedge.com/news/mec-update-april-21], Design Director Erik Odeldahl announced the delay.

The post says that the team is taking more time to make sure the social features "play flawlessly," as well as insuring that they have adequate time to address any concerns that may arise from the closed beta, which PC requirements here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167170-Mirrors-Edge-Catalyst-Closed-Beta].

Delays are never fun, but delays that result in a better game at launch are delays we can definitely live with.

I can hear the publishers now:

"Huge bugs with the social aspects? How much longer do you need?"

"Three months minimum."

"Will two weeks be enough?"

"No."

"Awesome. You've got two extra weeks. Keep up the good work."

"Go to hell."

"Go to work."

"social aspects"? please don't tell me that's referencing syncing facebook replays or some shit, good god.

I'm usually all the happier for a delay to make things right...but in this case, I'm wondering wtf that means. Hopefully that's just padding for the beta feedback.

usually i can accept delays but for a feature i think is not so important. well, as long they fix other issues and make it a good pc port, fine by me. just have to hope i can play the beta.

Boo.

Eh, it's for the best. I mean, personally, I'm probably not going to use the social features but it's best that all the wheels are spinnin' for the people that will.

So they are delaying a game to fix a feature that should not exist in the first place? At least they could have delayed it to fix that vomit inducing camera movement.

What the heck are these "social features" they speak of? I thought mirrors edge was a singleplayer game. Did they add unnecessary multiplayer or something? Or did I misunderstand something about what got people so interested in the first game? /Confused
Nah, it's not multiplayer.

The social features that I know of are leaderboards and the ability to create custom time trials in-game which other players can then attempt.

Harmless, although not of interest to me.

same here. not interested either. im sure it would be funny to see how creative some will be to manage these runs. maybe i may try one or two if i feel like it but i know i will stick mainly with the campaign missions and side missions. at least this still seems to be their main goal. otherwise the beta would be only for this social feature.

I got into the beta, and I like it so far, but hopefully the put some more work into the graphics engine. Not necessarily making it look "prettier", but crisper. Distant buildings are laughably blurry, and some of the lighting effects make the rough edges look more pronounced, even at higher resolutions.

I was surprised at the M+KB controls though. I never played the original Mirror's Edge on PC, but it actually controls quite well here. In fact, I found I had better control than I did with my controller, mostly due to having much better control over the camera (Which is fine, as long as your aren't already prone to motion sickness in fast games)

yeah, im enjoying it as well. played over 2 hours after i got the email. for me it was after midnight because i live in australia, so i had a bit of a long night. lol.
but i agree with the graphics. what my main issue is this here:
https://forums.mirrorsedge.com/discussion/130/lighting-bug#latest

now this must be fixed for sure. otherwise the game it self set everything to max and it runs smooth. i have already played the original with M&K and never had any issues with it. but yes, it does play really well too. just that they have no customization for the controls. it only displays for the controller but not the keyboard. hope this will be fixed in the final version.

Just wondering, does the game require an online connection to play or is it just to install/register then you can play offline?
