Miyamoto is a BAMF; him and Koji Kondo are like my favorite game creators ever! (Miyamoto because he create the Zelda series, and Kondo because he made the music for it!

Man with Miyamoto as their leader its no wonder that the Wii is ahead in sales. He understands how to make a fun game with what you have.
Except that most of the games that have been released for the Wii for the past 2 years have been shitty shovelware.

The only good games on the Wii are a handful of Nintendo releases and a few third party games. How many good games have their been on the Wii for the past 2 years compared to all of the
decent-to-great tittles on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
I'd say that's pretty much a 1:1 ratio myself.

Hypocrite; Miyamoto hasn't released anything remotely fun since Mario 64.
I'm sorry you believe that.

Wait... isn't it Nintendo who have been re-doing Mario and Zelda for ages now?
Yes because mario galaxy is an exact copy of the original game and not in any way original or inventive..

.. oh.. wait.
Thank you, clammy. I don't have to say it myself.

Although it comes from Nintendo, his message is clear and it is most definitely a true message. Good on him.

Isn't this the same guy that just remakes the same game a million times, but with minor changes each time? While I partially agree with him, he should understand that in a recession there is a lack of money. Which in case no one knows, is quite vital (just as much as fun) to make video games. And when times are tough, people fall back on what's familiar, note all the sequels.

I call bull! There were plenty of fun games in 2009, just because they're fun doesn't mean they sell. New ideas? You mean like Heavy Rain or Mirrors Edge or even Dead Space? Yeah those sold like hot cakes! I love Miyamoto and would love to work and learn under him but geez man, this I can't agree with. Tim Schaffer has been releasing awesome and fun games for a while now and they don't sell like they should be even though people love Tim Schaffer. With all the half ass re-releases Nintendo has been doing for years, excluding Galaxy, you wouldn't think you'd here this from the man himself.

On the one hand, this is REALLY obvious.

On the other hand, nobody in the game industry gets it. It's like he's trying to bring common sense to a world full of FPS games and generic MMORPGs.

I applaud him for it.

At least someone at nintendo under stands what's going on. You can always trust the genius that has the fixed pay check to make the right decisions. Lets hope 2010 is better.

Miyamoto, you are an idiot.

There are TOO MANY fun games lately, I had to shove long games like Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age to the side to keep up.

My goodness someone with sense! I was saying the same thing in my post, sorta. I don't get why people whine about new ideas when they, themselves, aren't even going to buy them.

Once again, Miyamoto descends from the heavens to offer up his sage wisdom, if only the rest of Nintendo felt that way. Oh well, the damn system is still a liscence to print money.

This is so true. When will all developers realize that we want to have FUN when we play games. We didn't come just to see the neat effects or amazing lighting techniques. Wake up guys!
Large portions of us are "graphics whores" who play things for advancement in lighting physics, animation, and AI. :D
Well, the AI is the most important part, IMO, because stupid enemies are boring.
An interesting thing about AI is that you can get away with a lot of "fake" AI. Like in F.E.A.R the AI would seem smart just because of scripting. So you can save processing power for graphics. Yay more graphics! But everyones different I suppose.
