I thought that fun both in videogames and in general has been outlawed for quite some time now. I mean, if something could be called "fun" and "lighthearted", then all nihilists, MANLY MEN, and general douchebags in the world would feel inadequate, and we can't have that.

Apparently i 'm not getting something here.

While I do believe the recession is responsible for some of the poor sales, you can't argue with his statement. If you game is better than others, people will buy it. Make your games as great as possible, don't skimp on anything, and hopefully it will sell. Look at Heavy Rain, I loved that game but I expected it to do poorly, and yet it is selling rather well which brings a smile to my face. I also believe this is the age of Indie games, games that don't cost 60$ to play that you can download from your own home without having to burn gas going to EB games. And you know what, that doesn't bother me as long as the games are fun and good times are had, I can't really complain where there coming from.

The trouble with his logic is not everybody finds the same games fun. There isn't a single model to go on that will please everybody. Another flaw in his logic is not everybody can afford to spend $50-$60 every single flipping month on videogames. Not everybody is a millionaire like you Minimindo.
Get your head out of your NES and start living in the real world.

Well, fair dues to Miyamoto for saying what the consumer was thinking. The good games will get bought regardless of the economic climate, so devs should make fun games, as opposed to just bitching about the economy. In any other profession, that's be considered a rubbish excuse for not doing your job well.

yer kinda screwed up the quoting there, made it look like I said the $5 thing. Maybe change that?

"I think, the more recent your OS the more difficulties you may have."

I have Vista 64 bit... welcome to my world of pain.
oh, sorry about that.
The best I can think of is installing xp after formating your PC, or install xp on a virtualmachine, if you know how that work.

Yeah. $5 multiplied by every sale probably amounts to a good amount of profit; what they do can't be more expensive than developing their own titles. But considering 5 euro won't even buy my a pint in many pubs in Dublin city it does look like a laughably cheap price for hours of fun.
They are making huge profits for a few tweaks, that's hardly equivalent to developping even a small retro game.
It's not fundamentaly wrong to be nosy, but thei're not getting me :)

Hypocrite; Miyamoto hasn't released anything remotely fun since Mario 64.
Only in your narrow, deranged and WRONG opinion, idiot! Where do you get off calling the greatest games creator of all time a hypocrite?

Man with Miyamoto as their leader its no wonder that the Wii is ahead in sales. He understands how to make a fun game with what you have.
Except that most of the games that have been released for the Wii for the past 2 years have been shitty shovelware.

The only good games on the Wii are a handful of Nintendo releases and a few third party games. How many good games have their been on the Wii for the past 2 years compared to all of the
decent-to-great tittles on the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
I'd say that's pretty much a 1:1 ratio myself.
Well I guess that depends on what kind of games each person likes, if you hate sports games then you won't take those into account for example.

But I for one can easily think of at least a dozen good Xbox360/PS3 games whole I can only think of a handful of good games on the Wii.
A dozen IS a "handful".

You are being sarcastic, aren't you?
Because if you're not, count me in as a deranged and narrow person.

That's needlessly aggresive. Also, greatest games creator of all time, really? I've always disliked the Zelda games, I've only ever liked Mario 64, and everything else he makes is shit; Wii music anyone?

Also, how can my opinion be wrong, douchebag.

Wait... isn't it Nintendo who have been re-doing Mario and Zelda for ages now?
Yes because mario galaxy is an exact copy of the original game and not in any way original or inventive..

.. oh.. wait.
Thank you, clammy. I don't have to say it myself.
I'm sorry I believe that as well. I was looking foward to galaxy but it fell flat on its face after the first level.

Agreed.
Hate to wreck the party, but that's the mark of a good salesman, NOT a good game developer.
I get the impression that Miyamoto is making such statements due to Nintendo's financial success; that it gives him credibility.
Instead, it seems that he has his head stuck in the clouds, and assumes that his systems are selling because of good "innovative gameplay", when he couldn't be further from the truth.

I said "easily think of", that isn't to say that there aren't more good games released every year. Still, I don't suppose you can mention at least 12 decent Wii tittles that were released last year?
I have a DS not a Wii thank you very much.

He is a god among men. Hail Nintendo! Seriously we all know the xboxoids like the generic brown space marine/modern war shooters because they like looking at big muscly sweaty dirty men. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

All the haters rag on Nint for releasing zelda and mario again but every iteration adds unique gameplay elements which is more than can be said for generic brown shooter 8. The tears of fanboys are ever so sweet as they come up with excuses why Nintendo owns this gen.
Please, oh please pay attention to what you are saying. Until the Gamecube generation i was a die hard nintendo fanboy. Hell Ocarina of Time was the game that got me into serious gaming, i have it purchased from the Wii store and since then have played all its iterations, including past ones ( well except that CD-i or whatever the fake link one).

...And even i think Nintendo has to start innovating a little, they are reusing too much material (galaxy was fun but it was simply the Mario formula nothing else). I buy most of my games for the 360 and PS3 now because Nintendo forgot their old fans and now only make games for the casual gamer masses.

Casual Shinji said:
I know I'll probably get stoned by the rabid fanbase for saying this. But the reason the Wii is so succesfull is NOT because of fun games, but because of casual crap like Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

Then again, Miyamoto is a man who thinks that standing on a scale is fun.
Sorry dude, but at a certain level, wii sports is simple clean fun, its just a different type of fun to perhaps what you would get from playing Assasins Creed 2, for example. For years the guy has been about a one message. Keep it simple and keep it FUN.

He didn't define what the fun is, but just said that there haven't been enough games that have 'it', or that are different enough on the market, to attract a large paying audience.

I mean for me certainly, on all formats there haven't been enough games that just make me sit up and go, that looks cool and a lot of fun.

I just wish the Wii had some more powerful hardware. I love it to bits, because it is pure fun. But daaaammmmmmn, does it have the most narrow selection of games or what?
