Shigeru Miyamoto follows some sort of logic known only to himself.
But I kind of love it. He's like everybody's crazy uncle whose particular brand of insanity is tinged with genius.
All I can say to that is:

He even built a game using time travel as a component! Sure, it involved a flute instead of a Delorean, but it was still time travel.

I think an italian guy driving a interstellar aircraft is slightly more believable than anthropomorphic animals.
yeah but he is fat and therefor too heavy to do a barrel roll

Since the Mario universe isn't held down by any sort of logic, and focuses purely on addictive gameplay, it makes sense that he's a character that can appear in almost anything.

Dude, I remember that Popeye game. Either someone else ended up releasing it, or that was their original product...

As a kid, my cousins gave me their whole bin of Nintendo games and their NES - that was one of the games that came with it. I recall it resembling Donkey Kong, but I totally sucked at it, and stuck to playing Mario Bro.s.

Donkey Kong is pretty heavy, and he's great at barrel rolling.

That still doesn't explain why Mario makes so many goddamn games that are the same thing!

I was hoping to get an answer to that, all snideness aside I still wanna know why!

This is what my cynic believes as well. While I like to believe that it is a weird bit of personal logic, it just seems like lazy design since there isn't much story evolution...

Have you even played it? Or watched vids of it on Youtube?

I don't exactly get what is so fail about it. It doesn't use the Wiimote that much (plus), it's a damn sidescroller! (it's about time. No tennis, no soccer, no shovelware style spinoff)
AND it has new powerups, some of which work really well.

I'd say give it a try at least. Even from someone like me who hasn't liked Nintendo's direction these past years, this is such a step in the right direction.

Side scroll=done to death=boring=FAIL!
Kinda like 3rd person where the butt is in the middle of screen and controls are crap...... but not as annoying.....

I am perched otside your house a sniper rifle in hand, the shope is aimed at your knee-caps.

You have as long as it takes me to blow your limbs off to contemplate that crack about 3D side scrollers.
Go for the thumbs, I find side scrolling as boreish and poorly implemented as 3rd person :p

Or that Miyamoto originally wondered if he could patent the idea of a game in which the character jumped
Well wouldn't that suck? Imagine how big of an impact that would have on games these days?

I'm glad that he decided to not use Mario in every game he made. Instead he's just in most of them.

My Crazy Uncle has a basement that is lined from wall to wall with coffinlike containers of comic books dating so far back I swear a few of them would end up causing a raiders of the lost arc effect if I dared to take them out of their wrappers.

Man he's awesome.

Honestly I'd play a Mario themed WWII game. If it weren't for the fact that millions of innocent people were murdered I think it would happen.

Perhaps a Mario Themed Ambiguous War Game :p. Mario and his universe end up basically falling onto Earth and Calamity ensues.

It's a cop out for a lack of creativity, either that or Mario is a recurring character in Miyamoto's daily acid trips.
