let me be the first to say that i was never a hardcore gamer. i wasnt. i started out with a super nintendo and mario brothers, than a computer and the original prince of persia, then a playstation and silent hill, i didnt use to ignore stuff like eating, working, socializing for games. i would play on days when i had nothing else to do only.

fast forward to today. i spend 8-10 hours a day on the computer, between leading raids, and running a guild (on WoW) its a full time job.

what exactly caused this drastic change in behavior? i would have to say that was the doing of Diablo 2. yes the lovely Dungeon Crawler my best friend introduced me to. i played D2 religiously for years. I would like to pick up some dungeon crawlers again, as the gameplay for them seems so amazing compared to stuff like FPS games, or mmos or anything else, however in recent history i havent been able to find any decent crawlers that can even be considered in the same league d2 was in.

so with that said, do you know any decent dungeon crawler games, something where you go out, you gear out your character then run rampant kililng monsters that have no chance against your decked out character. no wasting time doing stupid side quests, or worrying about stuff like your characters socializing tab. and so on. stuff like fable, fallout pisses me off, i dont care about being good or bad, i just want to kill stuff. a lot of it.

any suggestions?

Torchlight. (Note: you don't even need to go back to the town to sell vendor trash, your pet does that for you)

I'm not aware of many other current awesome-mode-dungeon crawlers. If you find some, please quote this post and let me know-- that way i'll have the message in my inbox for sure.

Maybe try nethack? Thats purity, as i understand it.

Depending on how loose your definition of Fungeon crawlers is, you could count Oblivion and Fallout 3.

i have fallout 3 and fallout 3 is freaking horrible game. you have all these stupid side quests, and a retarded story and have to make moral choices and so on, same with oblivion, i want something where you go out, you kill stuff, you get good gear, you kill stuff faster. and if possible has an online play too.

think d2 with better graphics. where nothing takes more than 10-20 minutes to accomplish but its fun when repeated.

EDIT FOR THE REST OF THE PPL.

i was looking at torchlight a few weeks ago and the cover art threw me off and i ended up not getting it, but after all these recommendations im just going to not look at the cover, buy it, install it and see how it is.

Dungeon Siege 1, if you like Diablo I think you'll really love it. I had so much fun on that game.

PSO? maybe.

Torchlight looks like an obvious answer.
Yay! 2nd'd!
whats pso?
Phantasy Star Online.
When did the latest PSO game come out? I remember PSO on Dreamcast and then the (much improved since I could 2-play on one console) version on Gamecube. It's probably the only dungeon crawler I've ever enjoyed, and fit the " i want something where you go out, you kill stuff, you get good gear, you kill stuff faster. and if possible has an online play too" formula to a tee.

I've got a few thousand hours into that game. I haven't played it online for 90% of the time I've owned it. I had to buy the online adapter from ebay but and set up an account...which was kinda hard to do since the original servers were shut down by Sega. Now it's run by fans of the game. They still manage to add new and fun missions every so often. If you plan to play online, either play it on gamecube or the pc.

Uhh..sorry, I guess I was getting off topic...

Anywhoo, yeah I'd say they've got the whole " I want something where you go out, you kill stuff, you get good gear, you kill stuff faster. and if possible has an online play too" formula to a tee.

Sure you cant change your character too much but some of the rare weapons do look pretty sweet and the amount of weapon choices are close to the amount in Borderlands.

The Norrath Games on PS2 were pretty much dungeon crawlers. I liked them.

The only flaw I see in Fantasy Star is that it's a complete pain in the ass to chose between whether to be a Hunter or a Force. I tended towards the HUNewearl as a good compromise, but then they had to go and make the HUCaseal look awesome.

My brother always plays as a Ranger, but for some reason I can never get into it. I really like being forces, but its a force game I tend to drop fairly early on, whereas Hunters (and rangers) have much more of that "one more room" feeling in respect to getting new weapons.
