Mojam Claims Notch's Beard For Charity

Maximum face! MAAAAXIMUUUUUM FAAAAACE!

The most expensive beard known to man has now been claimed for charity. Watch, as Notch transforms from superhuman to beardless mortal; all it needs now is for him to be captured by Philistines, and the cycle is complete.

The shaving comes as a result of Mojam [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122255-Humble-Bundle-Mojam-2-Livestreams-the-Excitement], the three and a half days worth of charitable indie game development that took place in February. French Nuclear Spaceships and radioactive Kittens managed to raise a bundle, and Notch promised that, if the total reached $500,000 or more, he'd shave his beard. The Half a Million Beard Shaving was, fortunately for us, recorded for posterity.

Happy Friday to all, and remember, if ever you're tempted to make rash promises for charity, always have a camera close at hand. You never know what might happen!

Pretty cool. Actually this sort of thing has been done before, and quite recently too:

Not for half a million of course, but still. Always nice to see these kinds of things.

He gave up his almighty beard powers for charity. It takes guts to do that. He's definitely got my respect.

I have to think of one time, that was the other way round:

Story behind it:
When the German Handball team won the World Championship 2007 they stuck fake beards to their lips in honor of their trainer Heiner Brand [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Heiner_Brand_03.jpg].
He also shaved his beard a few years before because of a charity!

I am one of maybe ten people who have never played Minecraft.

And yet, I still feel a strange sort of affection for Notch.

Partly because of things like this.

(That his reaction to his company's lauds in Edge magazine amounted to, "Oh, c'mon, we've released one game, isn't it a bit ridiculous to be calling us the new revolution?" (paraphrasing wildly) didn't hurt either.)

For some reason I'm reminded of the scene where Aslan is shaved in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I feel very much saddened and conflicted by this...

Requiescat in pace to Notches beard. Anyway he can always grow a new one.

I was somewhat disappointed they didn't shave by hitting him though.
