Blizzard should also sue Mojang because Warcraft sounds remarkably similar to Minecraft.
See funnily enough I actually HEARD someone confuse these two.

No one calls the Elder scrolls game by 'ElderScrolls: , they call it by the .

It's a joke. I don't play Mojang's games. I'm not a fan, but I know enough to see when one company is being a dick. And it really is that cut and dry. And how could you have turned down a publicity stunt like a resolution via Quake Deathmatch? I mean seriously. Are drugged monkeys head of their legal department?

Good for Bethesda.

I hope they get to see Mojang driven before them.
I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I agree. Too many Mojang fanboys on here, crying over this. Mojang should just change the name. I mean, "Scrolls"? Really? Show some imagination, plug.
Seriously, right? When the school bully wants you to give him your lunch money, you shouldn't be a baby about it; you should give him your lunch money.

When a drug pusher offers you some crack cocaine, you shouldn't be a goody-two-shoes baby about it; you should snort some crack cocaine.

I see you're Canadian. When the French are being bullying assholes all over your land, you shouldn't be a baby about it being your home and wage a Seven-Years' War; you should let the French step all over your shit.

When a shitty next door neighbor wants you to tear your garage down so he can see your neighbor's lawn on the opposite side, you shouldn't be a baby about it being your fucking property; you should knock your garage down for your shitty neighbor.

When a litigious and sanctimonious software company tells you to change your intellectual property, you shouldn't be a baby about it being your fucking property; you should cow yourself to them and change your property.

Seriously, man. Are you trolling, or some kind of bizarre socialist libertarian?

"he even went as far as to suggest that Bethesda and Mojang settle the matter by way of Quake 3 Team Deathmatch, an offer Bethesda chose not to respond to."

lol Gotta love Notch. Good luck to him, I hope he kicks Bethesda ass.

Sorry Mr Lucas but your new film "Star Wars" is clearly an infringement on the rights we have with "Star Trek" and an imitation obviously meant to deceive the public into watching your title mistaking it for ours, this is very obvious when you see how both contain space ships, lasers and alien species, change the name to something else or face lawsuits.

Is this going to be handled by the Swedish courts? I certainly hope so, cuz they're brutal! They'll scream at Bethesda for even bringing it up, call them morons, and throw them out of court. That's the Viking way!
You know what? If they get the right judge there is an, albeit small, chance that they could actually settle this with a Quake match.

Both sides are being childish morons and should both grow up, notch should take this more seriously and Bethesda should stop being so dickish.

Huh, if this was EA instead of Bethesda suing over something this silly, the internet will be set alight with rage, everyone boycotting the old republic and the next dragon age game, comparing EA to the devil and slandering origin for some reason. Some developers like Bethesda and others *Cough* Valve *Cough* get free passes when they pull dick moves I suppose.
The only reason everyone is getting so emo about this on here is because they're all fanboys of Mojang...last years winner for "Best Game Company" or whatever the title was, on this site. They beat out legitimate game companies because of one game. Really? Way too many fanboys.
Nope. I'm looking forward to the release of Skyrim more than the release of Minecraft by an order of magnitude. I'm 'getting so emo' about this case because it's fucking retarded.

but don't gamers refer to the series as TES anyway? and individual games by their titles? i've never heard anyone talk about them as the Scrolls games or series, and tbh, i've not heard of Mojangs' Scrolls either :p

I haven't played Minecraft and did not agree with Mojang winning for various reasons, but this lawsuit is bullshit - fanboy or not.

I really don't see the problem. Since The Elder's Scrolls series is rather famous around gamers, wouldn't it be more beneficial if the thoughts would go towards that game instead?
Surely, people won't make the mistake of buying Scrolls instead of any of The Elders scrolls titles?
The thought of someone really thinking "This is an issue, let's file some paperwork!"... I can't describe it, it's not possible with words.

Would be great if they settled it with a gaming match, like Quake 3 which Notch said.

I sincerely hope that SEGA sues Bethesda, because obviously the game Rage infringes on SEGA's Streets of Rage trademark.

P.S. Thanks

I am sad about this. Notch proposed a pretty awesome and fair (not to mention, cheap) solution to a silly and unnecessary debate, and it was turned down. Bethesda, your lawyers (Or whoever started this silly thing) suck.

Last I checked you couldn't copyright part of your game title but all of it. So someone quickly make a game called The Elder and see where it goes. I mean who doesn't want to play a 90 old grandpa yelling at children to get off his lawn meanwhile upping his xp to do more crazier shit. Like for instance pouring a bucket of piss all over his porch and sidewalk so the kids won't go on although that would clearly be a tier 3 skill of bat-shit-craziness
I'd play that game... Do we get extra points for pouring the piss during the winter and watching the kids slip and fall?

Also... at what tier do we get to break out the shotgun?

what about the Quake match?
seriously Bethesda! NOBODY calls it "The Elder Scrolls" they call it:
"Arena" , "Daggerfall" , "Morrowind" , "Oblivion" and "Skyrim"!
not TES 1-5!
just leave it it,s going to cost allot of money and you aren't winning anybody over with this!

Call me an idiot, but does anyone actually CALL Skyrim the Elder Scrolls 5 beside gaming magazines/websites/press releases? Everyone I've met just says 'Skyrim'.

According to Kaplan, Bethesda's lawyers plan to use user comments about Scrolls videos, articles about the game and even screen shots to prove that gamers are likely to confuse Scrolls with the Elder Scrolls franchise. "It is really silly believing our game will be confused with their FPS-RPG with realistic graphics," he said. "They have dumped everything they could find about Scrolls."
Exactly, NO ONE will EVER confuse Scrolls with Skyrim. You know what the court should decide? Hold a survey under gamers about whether they refer to the TES games as Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim or as Scrolls.

Laughable really, Mojang has this in the bag and I hope they get a nice sum of money with it just to piss off Bethesda.

*note* I'll still be buying Skyrim ^_^

Lets not forget this is the legal "parent" company to the Bethesda developers who make TES, the future Fallouts, Prey 2 etc. The developer Bethesda has no influence or interest in this court case.

EDIT: Yep, Bethesda GAME STUDIOS makes the games, Bethesda SOFTWORKS are the ones getting hissy, and Zenimax publish it.. Saying you're boycotting Skyrim is like saying you're Boycotting CoD due to Activision being a money cow. O WAIT :|

Srlsy tho. Boycotting Skyrim is your loss and Softworks are being a little short; but then again "Scrolls" is an awefully generic name to call your game and "Scrolls" in the gaming world is easily identifiable as being a TES reference.
