I think it's kind of weird for the staff at the store he buys he's games to sell him a copy of a game he just made. :p

I like this practice of his. It seems to give a new perspective on the game, especially since there would have been a decent period of time between finish working on it, and being for sale. He would experience his game 'new' and see things from a different perspective.

Lol. I feel like an ass for pointing out this minor technicality, but he lives in England.

And there's no GameStop in the entire country.

I've said it before, he's genuinely proud of what he makes, sure he starts to see the flaws a bit clearer given time and he admits to them.

I do the same thing with the Fable games, I'm always genuinely in love with them until I've played them to death, which I suppose means Molyneux was right.

'The fable games should only really be enjoy the first time round.'

Because it's really true.

As for him buying his own games from a store. I actually really think that's admirable about him.

I'm sure other developers do the same... Admittedly more discretely, but it shows pride and a true determination to see how he can improve upon it next time.

I kind of commend him on that.

now I'm even happier that I've pre-ordered my collector's edition!

Squeeeeee!

Humility is good quality for a game designer to have, but I'm not sure he really needs to buy his own game. Can't he get a shrink-wrapped copy right off of the Microsoft Game Studios factory line? Do you think Molyneux waits outside of a GAME [http://www.game.co.uk/] at midnight with the rest of the common folk? If you work in the videogame industry, you might as well take advantage by getting a free copy of the game you just made.

Standing in line to buy it lets him see things from our perspective every step of the way. I approve.

I think if he does buy his own game on release, it's so he can sorta of see the people that are buying it. Perhaps it's just the thought that counts he may think "I have bought this game for myself, I am a normal consumer" it would perhaps help him feel a bit more objective about the game.

Basically, it's just the thought that counts.

I think its a good idea because when i get a game for free (from a competetion or something) i don't really care about the quality because i have been given FREE entertainment, so if i don't like it then i don't care because i didn't waste money. So if Mr Molyneux buys Fable 3 and thinks that this is a waste of money or there isn't enough to do, then he knows what the consumers feel.

Id like to work in whatever video game retailer he goes to then. XD

Interesting. Seems like a good way to see what we see when we play his stuff. And kudos to him for actually paying for it.

If I made a game I'd go to the midnight launch party, mingle with my fans, and give the retailer one copy's worth of cut.

Not only is it a nice PR move, but guys high up in the industry should never lose touch with the experience for their ultimate customers. Most retail slaves probably wouldn't recognize Molyneux (or indeed know why his name was significant)---Peter could go incognito and if he got a bad customer experience he has a platform to call the retailer out on it. This can only be a good thing.

Same reason I think bank executives should have one day a year where they work as tellers, why city politicians should take the bus or subway to work once in awhile, Congressmen get out and go to PTA meetings without campaigning like assholes.

Once we realize we're not all that different, everything gets better.

Logical? Not really. But I can respect that. For some odd reason, I can imagine myself doing the exact same thing.

Pssh! Fable 3 shouldn't be slagged off in years to come! It's not perfect, but it's damned good... DAMNED GOOD!

I think what Molyneux is doing is quite awesome and I wish more Developers would do the same. Sadly by the time that a game hits retail most developers wont touch it for at least a year if not longer. The process of creation takes so much out of you that while you are proud of what you have made, you don't want to see it again for a very long time.
