Monkey Island 2 Special Edition Renders HD Spit in Summer

Due to the success of The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, LucasArts is shining up its sequel for a similar release.

The previously rumored [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98919-Monkey-Island-2-Remake-in-the-Works] special edition of historic adventure game Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge has quickly turned out to be more than a rumor. Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge was officially announced by LucasArts this week, and it'll give the PlayStation 3 its first taste of Guybrush Threepwood.

The game will be digitally released on all of the same platforms as the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island: PC, iPhone/iPod Touch, and Xbox Live Arcade, but in addition to the PlayStation Network this time around, which will also receive a release of the first revamped title "soon." LucasArts has the special edition of LeChuck's Revenge set for release across all platforms in summer 2010.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge will add high-definition graphics so real, you can almost feel the spit. Play the game to understand what that means. The music and voices are also being remastered, and an in-depth hint system will be added that includes the ability to highlight interactive objects in the background. Players will be able to move the game's main character, Guybrush Threepwood, in a more traditional way this time, likely with the arrow keys or a joystick, if pointing-and-clicking just doesn't work for them.

LucasArts didn't plan [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92495-LucasArts-Not-Planning-Monkey-Island-2-Remake] on remaking LeChuck's Revenge at first, so this announcement just goes to show you that supporting titles like The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition can really pay off. LeChuck's Revenge is often considered the best game in the series, meaning anyone that enjoyed the first title simply must pick this one up as well. It's truly one of the best adventure games of all time. If you get stuck, just remember, spit is your friend.

Indeed it does.

"Hey boss, a lot of people really liked that one game!"

"Hmmm... Cash in on it!"

"Yaaay!"

Did you... read the article? This is the classic Monkey Island game (well the sequel, they did a re-release of the original already) - they're just recording voice-overs and updating art assets and whatnot, the game itself is the same though. In fact, you even had the option (in the remake of the first game) of switching between the original rendition and the updated one at will (though why you'd want to eludes me, but hey, you can).

It's not a new game at all, just a 'remastered' one. Ergo we already know it's going to be good, because it's Monkey Island 2.

But they did remake the classic The Secret of Monkey Island.

It was an exact carbon copy of the original game, but you had the option to play it with the new HD visuals and sounds, or you could play it with the original 'classic' visuals and sounds... you could even switch between the old and new styles effortlessly and instantly at the touch of a button.

The core gameplay and script wasn't changed at all.

I think the only thing you missed was the announcement...

I just want to know when the hell they're going to release the remake of "The Secret of Monkey Island" for the PSN? It's sweet that I know I'll be getting the second one but I want the first one as well.

I guessing that when they said "soon", they meant around the same time that MI2 is released.

I found a gallery [http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/53654/Monkey-Island-2-LeChucks-Revenge-Special-Edition-Announced] that has comparison shots between the original and the special editions. Can't wait for this!

Like I mentioned in another [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.179206-Monkey-Island-2-Remake-in-the-Works#5218486] post, this means that Dominic Armato will have officially voiced Guybrush Threepwood on every single Monkey Island game to date. Win.

Leave Monkey Island alone, ffs! The 'updated' version of the first was absolute garbage, the sprites and art design actually managed to look worse than the century-old 1st version.

Why would you pay for something that is free? I hope all the young kids would just play the original version instead of getting a new idea of what MI is supposed to be. It's cool that you can switch between the art styles, but it still doesn't warrant a remake.

I wish we could get some old sierra classics (like the entire Quest for glory games or Gabriel Knight) remade in a similar way.
