Monolith Soft Teases Possible Xenoblade Chronicles Successor

A clear successor, possible sequel to the hugely popular giant mech JRPG.

Today's Nintendo Direct from E3 included a tease of a new game from Monolith soft, possibly coming in 2014, that appears to be a successor or sequel to the critical and commerical hit Xenoblade Chronicles. Very little was revealed, though the brief trailer shows what appears to be gameplay both on foot and in mechs. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata implied that the game would have a large open world experience for players to explore. The game will be a Wii U exclusive.

Ok nice trailer but that told me nothing about the game beyond it has mechs. If they tell me nothing then I have zero hype.

Open worlds and giant transforming robots. This was the game of E3 for me. Well played, Nintendo. Now give the game a proper title.

So freaking awesome! Oh god, I want this so badly!

It looks amazing: the world, the city, the robots, the enemies! I'm definitely going to get this when it comes out here! I can't wait to hear more!

This was probably my favorite trailer of E3, it might have tied with the new Smash Bros one though.

Same here and I am so torn up about it (I don't really want to buy a Wii U but I LOVE Xenoblade Chronicle)!!!

The game looks gorgeous, the music was wonderful. Nintendo are giving me more and more reason to invest in a Wii U, which would be a first because I've never bought a Nintendo console excluding the Wii I bought for my sister for her birthday. Monster Hunter 3, SMTxFire Emblem and this are really, really tempting me. Are there any other non-first party titles worth a look? Where is Jeffers when you need him?

Crap, 2014? I should have moved out from home by then, meaning I wouldn't be able to use my brother's WiiU to play it :( I'll have to get my own I guess.

Sonic Lost World. Seriously, Sega look to have gotten their mojo back big time with Sonic Lost World.

Wii U exclusive. Well, there's a 3DS version, but that's its own game with its own development team.
Alright. You messed up your YT link there but I saw it and I'm impressed. Those levels that they showed off were full of creativity and looked really fun to play. I think I'm interested in enough games to consider actually buying one. I guess I'll hope for a price drop or a sale in my local area and pick one up.

I'm surprised that no-one has yet to consider the possibility it may be Xenosaga Episode IV.
It's a possibility but all of the gameplay features (other than the Mechs) are full on Xenoblade, the main characters weapon even hangs on him the same way. But the possibility of it being a spiritual meeting of both franchises has pretty much been clarified, though my money's on it being Xenoblade 2 or at least having a Xenoblade connection rather than a Xenosaga one... afterall it's been 7 years since the last Xenosaga game.

I didn't like Xenoblade, but this seems much more fluid. I'm leary whether a Japanese developer can handle actually making an open world, A la western RPG. I the past JRPGs that originally promised open worlds couldn't resist placing artificial blocks to restrict movement. Xenoblade did this especially, by creating enemies that were obscenely tough even if you were at the same level as them, and then made grinding even more monotonous and annoying than most JRPGs.

But an RPG about piloting giant mechs? Super Robo Fantasy? Sign me up for that.

IIRC they already said it's a new IP. It only has the Xenoblade feel. I love what I've seen.

How did I not notice this? Maybe this was what was revealed when my screen skipped. Possible (spiritual?) successor to Xenoblade? Yeah, I'd be down for that. I guess since this was just a tease (with no proper title, no less), I have time to wait, and accrue a few other "do want" titles for the WiiU, but it's sparse selection and lots of promise doesn't have me rushing off to buy one just yet.

Awww, Wii U? Yeah, I'll gladly take it, but I was constantly wishing for better textures while playing Xenoblade. It was pretty much the only complaint with the game.

Oh well, please suhs, may I have sum moah?

I might actually be getting a WiiU now. The library seems to be increasing and include more and more titles I really want to have. Of course we got the standard Nintendo fare of endless re-makuels of their old franchises which I am hopelessly addicted to but now you also have Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Monster Hunter, Dragons Quest and now this.

Basically the game I would love to own.

I might have even bought an Xbone if this had been an ex.. HAHHAHAHA

No nothing can make me buy THAT piece of shit, not even this game which basically has nothing I don't like so far, maybe it's characters, those are always a risk with JRPG's, but so far it looks great.
