So I've been playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on my 3DS with the circle pad pro attached and I've been loving the game so far. However, I've noticed that the controls on the ranged weapons are pretty awkward.

Basically, the issue is that when I want to manually aim I must hold down the right trigger, then use the right thumbstick to aim, then take my thumb off the thumbstick to hit the fire button, X. This is even worse when using a bow, as you must be holding down the fire button while simultaneously manually aiming with R. Its pretty much impossible to hold down the right trigger, X button and aim with the right thumbstick without manipulating my hand into an extremely unnatural position. I've been overcoming this somewhat by using the directional pad for aiming instead, but the directional pad really is not good enough for aiming quickly and accurately.

So my question is, can you remap the controls in this game to whatever you want? I would like to have manual aiming on the left trigger, firing on the right trigger or vice versa and make the switching items button X. I know the game has a few presets you can use, but as far as I can tell none of these seem to meet my needs. Is it possible to remap these buttons or will I just have to practice and get used to the controls as they are? I'm not going to give up the game because of this problem and will continue to play either way.

Also, for the sake of discussion, what is your favourite weapon type(s) and why?

Mine so far is the bow, because you can deal solid damage quickly and at range without sacrificing any mobility, also the possibility of applying status effects is nice too.

Nope. You can't change the physical controls.
I just aim with the D-pad. Very easy and very comfortable for me. I'm also a bow user.
Is this your first Monster Hunter game?
Yeah its my first Monster Hunter game, and I've been getting used to aiming with the D-pad when I'm using a bow, its becoming more and more natural. It still isn't perfect for when I need to precisely aim at small targets though.
