Monster Hunter 4 is Coming to The West in 2015

Western Monster Hunter fans will finally get a version of 2013's Monster Hunter 4 some time next year.

Japanese Monster Hunter fans have been enjoying Monster Hunter 4 on the 3DS since September last year, but English-speaking hunters have been given the cold shoulder from Capcom, who has, until now, refused to announce an English language version. Well thankfully, Capcom has today announced at its Hunter Festa '13 event in Japan that Western fans will finally be getting a version of Monster Hunter 4, although they will have to wait until next year for it.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS in early 2015, and rather than being a port of the original Monster Hunter 4, will actually be the Western release of Monster Hunter 4G, an updated version of the game that was also announced at the Hunter Festa event [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131658-Monster-Hunter-4G-Announced-For-Nintendo-3DS].

"While we wanted to maintain the familiar features that fans have come to love, we really wanted to evolve the series in a new direction, to appeal to existing players and attract new ones as well," said Monster Hunter series Producer at Capcom Ryozo Tsuzjimoto in the accompanying announcement video, which you can watch above.

Tsuzjimoto explained that the MH4:U will introduce more vertical and lateral movement than previously seen in the series, which should open up new possibilities by expanding the range of player actions and creating more fluid and dynamic experiences.

As in the Japanese version of MH4:G, MH4:U will feature online as well as local wireless multiplayer.

Heard about this yesterday and really, this is sweet. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Finally releasing it here, thank you Capcom, I have to wait a year, but at least you are going to release it.

I hope they port it to the WiiU
Otherwise 2015 might be the time to actually buy a 3DS, and get a hell of a backlog to start playing on :p

Honestly Monster Hunter has always been best on handheld which is why the handheld MH games sell like crazy. The online servers for the console versions always get shut down quickly, but handheld multiplay is easy to do.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was the game that got my Nintendo disliking ass to get a 3DS. Frankly Sony lost the MH series to Nintendo and that's embarrassing. I doubt we'll see a Wii U MH 4. Only 1.9 million copies sold on the Wii in 2012. Still a lot, but for a game that came out in 2010 on the second highest selling console of all time that's low for MH.

MH4 is also the first main series MH game to be released on the handheld.

I would say that Capcom is kind of shooting themselves in the foot making this a handheld game in this day and age, but their console releases have never really gained anywhere near the traction their PSP titles did. Especially in the Western audience. Man, I would love to have something like this on the PS3 or have it ported to the PS4 when I finally get around to getting one of those.

I have Tri on the Wii and 3 Ultimate on the Wii U but I honestly find the game to be confusing. It's a big grind with little sense of progression/purpose (obviously you slowly gather materials and improve your armour and whatnot, but to what end? Hunt bigger things? Why?). Maybe if I played in multiplayer I'd get into it more, but even reading guides and stuff I struggle to get a grasp on how the game works.

I'll probably skip this one.

Main reason why you're not truly enjoying it. Monster Hunter has never been a game to play alone. The quests are always hard by nature if you try to solo it.

It's also a game where you need to set your own goal and end.
Personally, My goal is just to have fun with friends, taking more harder challenges that's almost impossible to solo. In result crafting stronger armor and weapons. Then help out newbies get to my level. That's where I find my "enjoyment" in a monster hunter game.
While some of my friends tries to get all the achievement in the game, some tries to get to the highest Hunter Rank which is 999 (I've played for more than 200 hours, and my HR is just at 68 in MH3U)

If you don't mind, What HR are you?

I have no freaking idea. :p But yeah, my friend is really into it so I'd like to play with him sometime, but he only has it on 3DS and I only have it on Wii U so we can only do local multiplayer. And he lives in a different state.

Lol, that explains everything.

Well you can always try online with randoms if you like. But I never tried that myself since I only have the 3DS, so I can't guarantee about the people that you will meet.

Aww, that's a year away! Well I guess I'll know what to do if I ever get hold of a time machine but in I would be able to used the online feature due to everyone not getting it just yet.

Not to sound like an elitist asshole, but I disagree.

There is no game out there that is as satisfying as MH if you play solo (nope, not even the Souls games). The monsters are much more challenging if you're the only player that they can focus on. You really get to learn its moves, and need to squeeze out every bit of knowledge of the game's mechanics if you want to defeat the endgame monsters by yourself.

It's that perfect blend of strategy and skill that very few games actually do well (another game that does is the Horde mode in Gears of War 2 and 3). The problem with playing it online is that the monster dies in no time, and there's no semblance of challenge, IMO. And it's nowhere near as satisfying, I've found. I encourage people who have this game to solo a G rank monster - maybe something like Rathalos or Jinouga .

The only thing I'm hoping for is that they include online multiplayer this time, and not exclude it to the Wii U version only. There are not nearly enough people in my area that has Monster Hunter to play locally with friends.

Gonna join the choir that's crossing fingers for a WiiU version. Has sunk a looooot of hours into MH3U already and would not mind more.

thats a long delay for localisation. fingers crossed for a Wii U relaese, it looks fun
Well, it's a localization of a game that isn't actually available in Japan yet, so it's not as much of a delay as it seems. We're basically just skipping the current edition (MH4) for the upgrade (MH4G/U), which is fine by me.

Well, no one ever said that you can't play it solo. And Soloing clearly didn't work with NoeL here regardless of skill. I simply saying that MH is not meant for Solo play, unless you plan to be a Speed Runner or boast about your soloing in youtube.

You might like it playing solo, but I enjoy more playing in a group, Of course as a group we don't just go at piss easy monsters. Since most of my friends aims for a 999 HR we always go for the DLC Challenges and the advance 8* Tavern Quests.
About learning, Playing in a group actually can be faster if there's a more experienced player in the party as he/she can give you advise directly on how to fight a specific monster.

Speaking about challenge like you said it's clearly subjective. I find my satisfaction from team work, and of course this will make grinding for materials easier and less stressful since you have friends to talk and laugh with. Being in a group doesn't reduce the challenge because you also risk of failing faster with the only 3 continues you have shared. (The times when we get 3 guys simultaneously KO'd, hilarity ensues)

IMO, Rathalos and Zinogre isn't really a challenge they're pretty predictable and they're not so different from their High rank counterpart. I can easily solo them from my experience playing in a group. Heck, I soloed a Stygian Zinogre for it's armor.
The real challenge for a fresh G-rank hunter is to go solo a Brachydios, With it's High Raw Damage and good level of unpredictability.

So, speaking from my own experience. Your "skill growth" doesn't come from exclusively playing solo or in a group. It still depends on the player itself. Even though I spend most of my time playing in a group, I don't have any problem soloing monsters, this is because I pay attention to their advise and their movement when fighting a monster.
