I've always wondered what the shopkeeper says to the Hungarian in the Dirty Phrasebook sketch. I've tried using Google translate but to no avail. Does anyone know what he says?

P.S. I don't know if this counts as advertisement. Also, I don't know how to give a spoiler tag.

Assuming you're talking about the phrase "Yandelavasa grldenwi stravenka", after which the Hungarian punches the shopkeeper, apparently it doesn't mean anything: it's gobbledegook meant to sound like Hungarian. At-least this is according to Wikipedia and any other source I could find online.

Well, I got it into German as follows...

"Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!"

...but from there, I was lost.

We will not be seeing any posts in this thread from German speakers as they are all dead after reading the post above mine.

I hope you are proud of yourself for your wanton act of carnage Fallout Jack!

Thank you, sir... Thank you. And now, I need to go buy some tobacco in Hungary...and matches.

Just make sure you didn't forget an eel somewhere.

But yes, these jokes often play on "as long as it sounds like that language".

It's a matter of fact that Jim Henson use to practice Mock Swedish on his way too and from places driving. Result: Classic comic gold.
