A brand new IP is coming... a fusion of RTStrategy and FPShooting ... Warsoup!
While only in the early build stages of development, it still looks to have a lot of potential and I can see it becoming an addictive, hopefully runaway multiplayer hit! ... =) well, here's hoping.

Sorry guys, I don't know how to imbed videos ^^ but here's the link and I assure you, it's worth your time. =)

After watching this, I feel at this stage the weapon animations look like a mix of Halo and Unreal Tournament but we'll see how things unfold. =D

What are my fellow Escapist's thoughts after watching?

Looks pretty cool. Never been a big fan of strategy games but I think I could get in to this. I'm liking the minimalist art style too. Not something you see every day.

Agreed, tight gameplay over visual prowess is something I've always thought as a positive thing. Then again, having both is almost always the desired outcome. ^^ Guess we'll see how it feels when they begin to properly texture the maps and animate the character models.

what's it coming out for?
If you look at the logo screen at the end of the video; it would suggest PC, Mac, 360 and PS3.

Looks fun
I'm not convinced, they really didn't show much of anything, not even if it can be played without other. I like my games to at least pretend they have single player, like CoD for example of one such game series.

If it's done right, a game can easily stand up on it's multiplayer alone - despite Yahtzee's loud opinion. TF2 is a perfect example of this. Hopefully, with continuing support by it's developer after release, this game can pull off the same. =)

That's not the best argument to me, I hated TF2.

Looks bloody brilliant, but I hope Warsoup is a working title.

I know its shallow but the name of a game could make or break the sales.

alright, when mixing what is the video game equivalent of water and oil, putting it all in the powder keg of online multiplayer is a recipe for failure. is if trying to mix water and oil isnt already.

there is a very good reason portal was basically nothing but a giant literal test of the game's mechanics (and single player). blending FPS with RTS is going to be very difficult to pull off on its own, but introducing an online community that bashes and breaks every mechanic, exploits every glitch, and experiences every bug possible in NORMAL FPSs and RTSs....

just saying, they should really be working out the proof-of-concept appeal first like portal did. fans of modern FPSs and fans of modern RTSs do not mix for obvious reasons; trying to combine elements of both into one game meant to be enjoyed by both....very rarely works out even on the conceptual stage, let alone the maintaining-an-online-community stage .

Looks good, though I'm suspicious about the potential community. As I am with most multiplayers.

What if it's about a war over a bowl of soup?

We don't know that yet... and I'd be willing to die over a good bowl of New England Clam Chowder.

Fair enough, each to their own. I concure that they didn't show enough of the RTS elements. I for one want to see what other buildable options there are on top of resource gathering and Sentry Guns. I'm hoping for Guard Towers, Spot Lights for night maps and movable respawn location Control Centers.

What I meant to say is it looks like it could be fun.
It needs a lot of work. From what I saw in the video it seems like it's in the early stages of testing the premise and stuff. So I'm sure it will have a single player and look better and other things...

So it's Dawn of War: The FPS?

Well it looks nice at least. Except for the terrain, the terrain is a bit lulsy, but the clean lines make it very tolerable.
