After a good amount of time with the beta I’m not surprised at the scores. It’s “good” but definitely not “SoulsBorne” quality, which can be expected considering Cold Fusion is a tiny new upstart. I was hoping being a smaller game this was going to at least expand on the typical Souls gameplay in more focused and tactful ways (which it does to an extent) and iterate on its flaws, but introducing new ideas yielded new issues, and in some cases made old ones worse.
Most critical of which would be how flakey general movement feels. This is something these types of games need to have really dialed in, where positioning and footing are vital aspects. If your character doesn’t feel sure-footed and connected with the world then combat will never be as engaging as it should be.
