Knights of the Old Republic. Yeah, that's right. :)
Hmm ever?? idk about that. but That's going to be pretty tough to beat. I don't even really like star wars and those games had me by the force nuggets.

Portal. I couldn't put that damn game down until the final song was done being played. This game was a triumph.

I was about to say Knights of the Old Republic 2, but it wasn't really the whole story as much as it was just the singular excellent character design of Kreia.

Sooo... Mass Effect, had me on the edge of my seat.

ninja gaiden 2. and lost odyssey has an immense story, similar to final fantasy really.

Jak 2 kept me entertained for about 3 or 4 hours on end, which was about a fifteenth of the game's length. 1 and 3 not so much, because I played 3 first, then wanted to know about what was going on but couldn't find 2, so got 1, and the cliffhanger and left-out-storyline made me get Jak 2.

Condemned kept me coming back, just to see what the next big mind-fuck was going to be.

Gripping in a different kind of way was the PSP Syphon Filter games, Logan's Shadow especially. It was probably the mix of light-stealth elements and a brilliant soundtrack that did it for me. I can't really think of a dud level in that entire game.

Fallout 1 and Baldur's Gate both got me. Deus Ex, too. Any Civilization game, although whether that counts as a "story" is debatable. Half-Life 1, but not so much Half-Life 2.

Titan Quest. its on my top 5 best games ever. its story is so amazing and so intense.

Dawn of War: Soulstorm. i wanted to see what the storyteller said and how the races reacted when i beated them, so in a rush, i destroyed the 5 or 6 remaining races without saving before killing the last. now 5 planets (he won on Kronus lore-wise) and 3 moons belong to our alltime favorite, GORGUTZ ´EADHUNTER

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines had me gripped, both because it was a damn scary game in parts and also because its so atmospheric. It's a totally underrated game in my opinion, see if you can get your mitts on it.

Dead or Alive Extreme 2..... Oh yes... there was much "gripping" involved with that title... eh heh heh heh.....

God I'm lonely....

Anyways, Mass Effect really got me into the story. Especially from the point when you help that Salarians attack that base. COD4's campaign gripped me too. Especially after the nuke.

BioShock, the Halo series, Half Life 2, the 3D Zelda games (I love all of them equally, MM, OoT and WW, haven't played TP though), Metroid Prime 1 and 2 (never played 3, I lack a Wii), Portal and Gears of War are among the titels that really sucked me in. I probably miss some, my memory isn't all too good.

Agree with Oot, even if I was too young to complete it at the time it was released. Picked it up later and well... It was amazing =D
