Yeah DA kinda ruined it for me too.
Good to know I'm not the only one. I remember a while back there was a thread on Sam Fisher, and I sort of hijacked it with a rant about how DA was a bastardization of the franchise.

Interesting choice. I know nothing about it really; other than the obvious. Lemme do some research.

Not that your games do not have some sort of merit, but why MGS and Tekken 5?
I slightly disagree w/ the Tenchu games, but feel free to defend them.
Street Fighter II is already up there, and while KoF is awesome and in many ways shaped how subsequent SF games were developed, I do not think they were that monumental.
dude those games were most influencial to "ME" .. it could be the crappest game ever created with a storyline that sucks ducks off in alleyways .... doesn't have to be the most amazing game that got high ratings or earned some sort of most legendary game ever title to influence someone

METAL GEAR: because it's soundtrack was awesome and reminds me of my childhood when things were so much simpler and solid snake was the first ever character i ever played with that much depth

TENCHU 1 and 2: because i remember having to sneak this game into my house when i was a kid because of the 18 rating, i played nights and nights and basically fell in love with the characters, storyline and soundtrack .. not to mention the combat system was so epic .. first games that ever made me feel like an adult ^^ .. tenchu 3 and upwards suck

KOF and SF series: i remember playing kof as a kid and thinking "omfg these dudes have style" .. it kinda of got me to be more open about the way people dress and all is good as long as it's in the name of fun .. the combat system had nothing to do with it ... also i fell in love with alot of the characters and storylines from both games .. and again i mention SOUNDTRACK!!

TEKKEN 5: again storyline and soundtrack .. i loved that characters stories no matter how short and full of holes they were mostly because i was following along since i was a kid and i remember one night before this tournament (i did a few martial arts) i just stayed up all night listening to and watching the tekken 5 intro over and over and over again .. before i knew it i had done an all nighter and was effed up :p but i still got 2 medals ^^ one bronze for form and a gold for application (combat) :p but the ppl the signed up were total wusses so it wasn't a very proud gold XD

but as you could figure from all that the reason i chose those games is because they all bring back memories and touched my soul at one point in my life .. don't care what anyone sais about them

Note: I corrected your entry about Metal Gear Solid (you said just put "Metal Gear," which is a completely different game).

You're absolutely right that it doesn't have to be the most amazing or get the highest reviews, but my original post was to get games that changed the industry (what games are today) and not necessarily what just influenced you. But it's good that have games that you can identify as the ones that most influenced you.

I would suggest Devil May Cry, as it was the first action game (if I remember correctly) where style and substance went hand-in-hand in fantastic harmony. Certainly its sequels don't live up to the original, but the original itself has classic (and influential) gameplay.
I could see why you would say that.

I purposely left that out simply because it's not as influential as people may think. Yes, it was one of the first computer games, but I would argue that Tennis for Two was just as influential.

I think it's arguable whether MGS or Metal Gear was more influential. I believe Metal Gear to be more influential, but I'm open to debate on the matter. As for Tekken 5, I didn't really see much of a change in the whole fighting genre after ts release. But once again, open to debate.

I can see why you'd say that about Tekken 2 maybe. But that's why I have Virtua Fighter up there. I'll consider adding it, though.

About MGS, I'll think about it. I still think Metal Gear was more influential, but I see no reason why I should be the omega on the matter since I am not the industry incarnate.

This is gonna be difficult to come to a consensus on. Everyone has there own opinions, but its clear theres a couple games that everyone can agree on.

Golden Eye
LoZ - OoT
Mario 64
etc.

Funny how most of them are on N64...

Go with Metal Gear cause after all, Metal Gear was the first game of series. Then there was Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake and 10 years after(I think) after Metal Gear made its debut, Metal Gear Solid showed up. MGS is the spiritual sequel to the Metal Gear series.

Btw why did you add Sonic to the list?

A lot of people don't like mentioning it, but I swear by its truth:

Halo is easily the most influential FPS. Master Chief is second only to Mario in terms of gaming icon-ness and then many consider Halo to be standard upon which other games are judged.

And you all have to agree. I can't count how many threads I've seen about people complaining that games are too much like Halo and not like Half-Life 2. I'd say Halo has done more for gaming than Half-Life 2 ever will.

"Half-Life 2 garnered near-unanimous positive reviews and received critical acclaim, winning over 35 PC Game of the Year awards for 2004. The game has been critically praised for its advances in computer animation, sound, narration, computer graphics, artificial intelligence (AI), and physics."

More than Halo ever did in my book.

But the most influential FPS is Doom wich made the genre popular, and had more cultural impact. Hell to promote Windows 95 Bill Gates made a demo out of Doom showing him(gates) killing monsters.

We're discussing which games are influential, not which ones got critical success. Each and every one of the advances would have been done eventually. As for Halo, look how many Space Marine games spawned after Halo.

Grenade button, melee button, recharging health, two weapons only... these are only a few influences that Halo had on the FPS genre that are pretty much standard today.

Half-Life 2's A.I. was heavily criticize by critics, they were pretty lackluster especially compared to the artificial intelligence from the first Half-Life. Use of physics based gameplay was done before in Jurassic Park Trespasser, Half-Life 2 just did it better especially with the EPIC gravity gun.

Like I said before; neither Halo or Half-Life 2 {or one for that matter} did anything new.
The AI that its being mentioned is the AI of friendly NPC's(wich was better then the enemy). And yes nor Halo or Half Life deserve the credit for most influential. Half Life series deserves a special prize for taking the genre to another level. Like I said for me Doom is the most influential FPS. But that can be discussed betewen Catacomb 3D or Wolfenstein 3D. But in popularity Doom takes the cup imo.

Sorry but in video games Doom was the first to make SPace Marines in gaming popular.

Again Halo didnt bring nothing new apart from regenerative Health and limited health which many FPS players dislike.

Look at timing though. Sure, Doom was first, but Marines weren't in almost every single shooter until after Halo.

This IS debatable though because you could argue that not as many games were coming out in Doom's time than they were in Halo's time.
