I watched the third Berserk movie, Descent, recently. It was definitely the best of the three, and I actually liked it and would recommend watching it too. It was also one of the most insanely violent movies I've ever seen. It was no surprise, considering the part of the manga the movie covers, and I'd read it so many times already it didn't have such a strong impact on me. But I still went "Woah dude, that's some gross stuff" at times. The only movie I can remember seeing and being more violent is Hobo with a Shotgun. Braindead comes close, but considering it's effectively a comedy, its impact was somewhat lessened.

So what are your picks for the most violent movies you've watched? Consider also that to be violent a movie doesn't necessarily need to be overly gory. The Raid, for example, isn't a very gory film, but the amount and intensity of the violence in it also puts it among the most violent movies I've seen.

Transformers 2 and 3. Yeah, they're robots, but never have I seen so much dismemberment, face ripping, and spine pulling even in a rated R movie let alone a PG-13 one.

If I'm not including stuff where you get stupidly unrealistic gore, probs Oldboy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwIIDzrVVdc]. Just for that corridor fight scene, the film in general is kind of melodramatic.

Though if we are going with slapstick violence (which I don't think is as bad because it's impossible to take seriously), then various Tarantino scenes abound, along with various gorn films like Saw.

For weird psyche violence, probably Dogville [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogville] - it's horrific because of the way that it's filmed.

As for favourite violent scene, the ending of 28 Days Later comes to mind. It's precisely too vicious to sate the build-up of tension throughout the rest of the film, but it isn't in any way overdone.

Note: video isn't massively graphic on-screen, but probably not for those that are faint of heart (especially the scene between about 7:30 and 8:40)

Paul Verhoeven movies:
- Robocop
- Total Recall
- Starship Troopers

Other movies I can think of at the moment:
- The Loved Ones
- Brother (Japanese movie)
- Hostel (haven't sen the sequels, maybe they're even more violent)

Honorary mention goes to Man of Steel. So many people die in the climax of that movie.

Well, if I remember correctly, Hostel 2 ends with kids playing soccer with a decapitated head... unless that was the ending to the first Hostel movie...

Afro Samurai was bloody violent... Still enjoy the hell out of both movies, though...
Kill Bill was bloody amazing...
Kick-Ass, despite the comic being more violent, was still pretty violent...

I think the movie I wasn't expecting to be as violent, given the rating, was The Dark Knight... (or maybe I was more intimidated by The Joker's sense of causing chaos...)

I had to hug my girlfriend for a solid hour.

The Girl Next Door.

The movie is about a little boy (Supposedly kind of based off of a real event) that, over the course of a few weeks, witnesses a family torture a girl to death in their basement. The mother carves words into her with hot needles, her 3 (Less then 14 year old) boys rape her CONSTANTLY, she spends most of the film hanging by her hands, and she's eventually killed after they castrate her with a hot fire poker.

I LOVE Kill Bill...Just...I need to go see it again now that you brought it up.

But yeah, Kill Bill, Kill Bill 2 and Spriggan was moderately violent...

Not much coming to mind besides that.

I remember rampage being very...strange.

its not so much the gore or the fact of "pew pew" people dying, it's the way it was done and the reasons that just made me go "wow. if that was me i'd have been fucking shitting my pants"

the actor couldn't have played a mentally warped fuckhead better than he did.

The thing is violence is nothing without meaning. You can say something like hostel etc but that is just violence for violence sake its means nothing.

I would suggest you watch "harry brown" the violence is not excessive but its used well and it really gets the point across.

a gang get high and drive by a young mother and shoot her head (all filmed on a mobile phone and you can hear them cackling in the background)

it's same title just different movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830558/

slightly off topic:

I IMDB'd that movie, saw a random discussion board post about people saying that was the worst movie they'd ever seen, and one guy responded to them saying "still managed to rub one out"

....fucking lol'd, I really wish I didn't have such a horrid sense of humor, but damn I laughed at that.

I'm glad this movie got a mention because it's the worst kind of violence. Not glorified, or stylized, just a realistic gritty depiction of a terrible thing. Its the kind of thing that really sticks with you.

The film is a bit like ferris buellers day off but a lot shitter

I think Braindead takes the title, the lawnmower scene alone was pretty gruesome stuff.

If not that then one of the later Saw movies, Saw 6 in particular comes to mind because of that fuckin acid trap at the end, shitehawks that stayed with me.

oh no, the off topic part was about that really fucked up movie, not the girl next door who is the porn actress.

but yes, i do agree, it's a late night movie where it is quite easy to say "fuck it, why not?" to have a nice sleep.

The movie as a whole wasn't the most violent thing in the world, but in Killing Them Softly, Ray Liotta takes one of the most realistic looking beatdowns I've ever seen on film.
How I watched the whole thing without blocking my eyes, I don't know.
