Sooo there are people that are willing to pay additional money for something that is already done and would have been in the game except it was too big? Here's what they can do- release it for free, and let people keep the content on the hard drive of their system. What other reason would there be to pay for it?
No, man, c'mon. That would never work. BECAUSE IT MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE.

Let me get this straight: You'd rather have unnecessary content left in the game, because it would make the game less monotonous? From what I've gathered the additional content isn't some minigame and it's likely not going to change the gameplay, it's filler they felt wasn't crucial to making the story arc complete. Now I'm inferring a lot there, but somehow I doubt this cut gameplay would do anything but add some extra hours of sameness to the game.

On the topic of XII, I don't think 'either' is the word you're looking for you mean 'for both of the following...' not 'either'. I didn't find either of those to be a problem for me, I just felt that the necessity to complete hunts etc. created a lot of filler. I didn't find the globetrotting all that annoying either, what with the teleport crystals littering the gameworld.
What I was trying to get at was that I interpreted it as they cut out side quests. Take for example blitzball from FFX, whenever the linear story got a bit dull/repetitive/monotonous/[adjective] you could stop and play blitzball for a while. Now imagine if they had cut this side quest (bar the essential plot-related game), it would have been a poorer game for it. It all comes down to our different opinions on the nature of what has been cut out from FFXIII.

As for FFXII I chose the wrong words, I was inferring that the game was poorly balanced - whenever you went into a fight it was either sit and do seemingly nothing or spam the limits that, quite frankly, was based 99% upon luck of getting the recharge-mp option and running in circles around the enemy waiting for the mp to recharge to the appropriate level.

You see, if they stuck to pre-rendered graphics like I said then this would've never had happened :D

Well there's always a chance of a director's cut later on. Considering that's what they did with one of the Persona games along with, I think, Rogue Galaxy, then there's a good chance they'd do this to milk more money out of the fanatical fans that need to own everything Final Fantasy.

Pretty obvious what will happen, Japan and maybe America will get the international edition, but Europe wont. We'll have to pay about 800 points per DLC for about 8 pieces of it.
I'll wait another 3/4 years and get the 'game of the year edition' with it all included.

Okay, I understand now. However, from the content they've listed (a zoo, a resistance hq and Lightning's home) I think it's less about standard gameplay breaks and more about giving you extra tidbits of character development.

I must be the only person on earth who is feeling completely underwelmed by the new FF. I used to love JRPGs but I feel like I've seen or done everything they have to offer. Sure it looks nice and shiny but Im preferring the more real and gritty art style of Mass Effect 2.

I knew things are getting bad when I saw Lost Odyssey for £12 and still didn't buy it. I think I need a new Shining Force to get me excited about JRPGs again.

OT if the cut content helps the pace of the game then I see no problem at all.

And yet the game will still be much longer than it needs to be.

Anyway, I don't see why this deserves a news article. Nearly every (good) developer cuts out significant portions of their games before they are released.

Square doesn't even need DLC, they'll do what they did with the cut content in the two PS2 Kingdom Hearts games, release the more complete Final Mix versions, or what they did with FFX, X-2 and XII, release the International versions. Why make you pay for DLC when they can sell fans the game again?

Considering I lost all care and love for the "normal" Final Fantasy series starting with #10, I could care less (seriously, which one will be the FINAL one?! *time-space continuum breakage X_____X* Just call it "Continuing Fantasy" and get it over with already!!). Chances are I'll probably rent it then bring it back in a day or two because it got boring... Also on the agenda: poking fun at the people who buy it on day one and claim it to be the best RPG in existence simply because it's the newest & latest (sorry, but I still hold Xenosaga up near the top of true epicness, and personally I think the whole series still looks good). Sadly, though, it's pretty damn good-looking...

Nope, I feel exactly the same way.

This, my friends, is called editing. Calm down.
QFMFT. I can't count the number of games (JRPGs in particular} that would've been a lot better had they cut out half the content.

Oh dear god. Either we are going to get a FFXIII-2 or DLC.
If they put in a whole new game in DLC I'd be pretty damn happy.

Tired of DLC being utterly half assed and expensive.
Tired of DLC full stop, just an excuse for developers to cut content that should be in games and make us pay more for it. Hate it.

At least it's final fantasy so it should be a lot longer than the average game at the moment (i.e. about a paltry 6 hours). But would rather have the content in.

A shame. :(
But then again, this can be cause of this cut off portions of the game won't be finished in time or aren't good enough.
The game remains freaking big though. Still many hours of gameplay but meh! I wanted the zoo!

The internets is ablaze from all the flames FFXIII (the Japanese version) got from its homeland. Major complaints seem to stem from the fact that it's extremely linear, even for an FF game (note that there are a LOT of sidequests in other games in the series, you just have to get out of your way to find them). Haven't played it myself though.
