Mountain Dew Throwback: A Comparison

I walked into my local grocery store today and was positively delighted to find that they had gotten a shipment of the real sugar Mountain Dew, which is evidently called Mountain Dew Throwback (or MDT from here on out).

Well, as a huge fan of Dublin (cane sugar) Dr Pepper, I couldn't help but buy some, and as a service to the gaming community, here is a comparison with regular Mountain Dew.
Both are tasted while warm, as cold sodas all taste pretty much the same, honestly.

MDT: Less sweet-tasting, much stronger citrus flavor - honestly, reminds me a lot of Fresca mixed with Sprite, only without the horrible aftertaste of aspartame that Fresca carries. A little bit smoother mouth-feel, if that makes any sense to you. The aftertaste about five minutes after drinking (you know what I'm talking about if you've ever had a can of Mountain Dew before) lacks the metallic component - it's just sweet and citrusy.

"Regular" Mountain Dew: Sweeter, but less citrus flavor, with a metallic taste and a kinda bitter aftertaste. More sour than MDT, as well. Seems to be more carbonated. Now that I think about it, this is actually not all that great, but the caffeine makes it almost worthwhile.

Ingredient differences:
HFCS is replaced with "Natural Sugar," which I'm assuming means it's a mix of cane and beet sugar
MDT contains no orange juice concentrate
MDT contains no EDTA (a preservative)
MDT contains no erythorbic acid (also a preservative)

In short: Mountain Dew Throwback is a different drink, and it shows. Personally, I like it better, but if you like the sourness of regular Mountain Dew, MDT may not appeal. I'll certainly be stocking up on it while it's available, though. This summer's lifeguarding shifts will be so much easier to get through...

Perhaps this should be in User Reviews, but I don't want to get yelled at... sorry for the lack of a discussion topic here.

All I can say to this is that it's a crying shame that my cardiologist told me to quit caffeine if I wanted to live to forty because Throwback would be a fixture in my fridge otherwise. I'm trying to cut as much high-fuckdose corn syrup out of my diet as is humanly feasible (and on a tight budget it's harder than you'd think) and since at my local Target they're charging the same price for throwback as for regular it'd be an easy switch.

I bought a 12-pack of the stuff last week, and it was gone in 3 days.
The awesome thing was, it was the same price as regular mountain dew. Needless to say, I was very happy. I prefer the more natural taste of MDT.

They also have Pepsi Throwback, and it has six ingredients. My parents are happy with it, too.

I had Pepsi Throwback, and I didn't notice too much of a difference, although I did notice it had 67 grams of sugar in it. I also had a lengthy conversation with my friends about how it was called Pepsi "Throwback," implying that it sucks and you throw it back to where it came from. Or in the trash. It wasn't too bad though.

What? 67 grams of sugar? You sure about that? It might have been a bottle, in which case that's about right for Pepsi...

*shameless bump*

And of course it is nowhere to be found in Canada...

Then again not that I would drink it, as I have this thing about carbs in soda. Diet all the way.

I love Mountain Dew but we have no Throwback on this side of the world... This makes me sad, I want to try it. But at least we get L&P, to paraphrase the comic book guy from The Simpsons, "best soft drink ever!"
