Movies or Games you once liked till you rewatched/replayed them

There are a lot of examples I could list, but the biggest for me is The Neverending Story. I watched it a few years ago with a friend (who also loved it as a child) and by the end we were both stunned by how bad it is. The story is so bare-bones, it's like somebody looked at a fantasy plot outline and stretched it into a whole movie without actually filling in any of the blanks. It moves so fast that nothing has any substance. "Because reasons" is usually the only explanation we're given for the rules of the world or any action a character takes.

To this day, my friend and I still out-of-the-blue ask each other, "Remember when Neverending Story ruined our childhood?"

Liar Liar
Borat
The Grudge
Snakes on a Plane
The Lord of the Rings: Parts 2 & 3

Most of the above are easily explained away as being heightened by theater experiences. In the case of LotR's I put the blame on a combination of hype and cool first time action set pieces. When going back to watch the LotR's I found the movie incredibly boring save for The Fellowship of the Ring. This was mostly a result of poor pacing and simply too much unnecessary filler.

In terms of games?
I can't think of one. There are games I dislike when revisiting for the first time decades later. But I've never replayed a game in the same year and suddenly disliked it. At most I'm bored with it or the novelty has worn off...nothing to the point of genuinely disliking a game though.

An Unexpected Journey and the Desolation of Smaug.

I enjoyed both of them on my first viewing. However, the more I thought about them after, the more I became annoyed with the movies. Each time I've tried to re-watch either of them, I get through maybe 15 minutes before thinking of better things to do.

I imagine Battle of Five Armies would have been like that too if I'd even liked it to begin with.

Heh, most of the examples so far are things I thought were bad right out of the gate.

Mine is Robotech. I remember, as a kid, getting up in the wee hours of the morning to catch that show in rapt fascination (although even then I noticed that action scenes tended to get recycled). Plus, the notion of plot developing over consecutive episodes was so incredible - nothing else on US TV did that back then.

The new Battlestar Galactica. (I know it's not a movie or game, by the way)

At first it was really cool, now I find it just depressing. I realize now how awful the characters are in terms of their actions and behavior, and it makes me think "I'm supposed to be rooting for these guys, so why do I want the Cylons to just finish them off?" Really, a show about people struggling to survive as they try to find Earth should make you want them to succeed, but these people? Ugh, what a bunch of dicks.

Phantom Menace. I thought it was awesome when I first saw it, but when I saw the re-release I finally realized 'my god, it's really shit'.

Death Note as well, both Manga and Anime. I just grew out it, I guess.

Oh yeah and the Walking Dead comics. Didn't stop me buying the first 100 issues, something I now regret, but I going back they're just really tedious.

Re-watched the first of the Star Wars prequels. Was Jar Jar always that fucking annoying? The first time I saw it I loved it. But now I can't stand it.

Trainspotting - cant watch it anymore. the characters are a bunch whiny prats

High fidelity -same as above

Tom Cruise action vehicles - I still keep seeing him hopping up and down Oprah's couch grinning like an idiot

Edgar Wright movies - they're all the same to me

Star wars ep1-3 - Its hard watching GL take a shit in a bucket over and over

Kevin Smith movies - I grew up

The Simpsons - same as above

Harry Pothead movies - Harry gets something for nothing, kid wish fulfillment obviously

Ben Afleck movies - he should stay in the director's chair permanently

Chris Nolan movies - he's got a formula that's starting to break at the seams for me

Schindler's List, Inglorious Bastards, Saving Matt Damon - I got the message bashed into my skull at this point

The Bourne movies - camera work just makes me want to puke

Marvel studio movies - they've fallen into a by the numbers approach you can smell a mile away

Forrest Gump/Benjamin Button- same dude wrote these movies, 'nuff said.

FF7/FF8 - FF7's basically an interactive movie. FF8's main character acts like the gunblade is shoved up his ass, the rest of the cast is annoyingly pathetic and unremarkable.

Ass Effect trilogy - hours spent and choices you made count for nothing because of "artistic integrity".

TF3:Barked at the Moon - too much military porn and useless scenes with humans especially Shia

Indian Jones:Crystal skull - harrison ford should have stuck SHia in the fridge and nuked him

Matrix Revolutions - Just WTF were they blathering about??

Any James Franco movie - something's wrong with his face

Bleach - The series took a nosedive after the Soul Society arc and is pretty tedious and painful to watch

Brave - the movie starts out strong and then breaks down and grinds to a halt after Mom gets beared!

Stephen Sommers movies - I can tolerate Van Helsing once in a while but the rest I cant stand

Found Footage movies - people acting out in obviously scripted scenes with shaky cam is not my idea of a good time

Seth Rogen movies - same lame jokes all the time spammed all over the length of the movie, same 1-2-3 sequence of Seth Rogen engaging in something depraved escalating in intensity

Fuck me you like a good whine don't you? :p

Would probably say the first matrix film, it just been out classed, though the philosophy of the series (or the first two) is still good.

Games? I'd probably have to say robocop on the Amiga :-D
