Movies that everyone you talk to seems to think are bad but you think are actually pretty great.

I hear people shit on Freddy Got Fingered a lot. I don't know what they were expecting when they went to see a Tom Green movie called Freddy Got Fingered, but I got what I was wanting out of it. I've seen that movie more times than I'd care to admit.

I still don't know the answer to the burning question: "Daddy, would you like some sausage?"

Speed Racer is always the first movie that comes to mind whenever this topic comes up. I thought that movie was pretty much perfect from start to finish. I think the marketing of the movie utterly failed, though.

Honorable mention goes to many movies others have already talked about (waterworld, postman, etc.).

I actually really like Matrix Revolutions and find matrix Reloaded the weakest of the bunch.

Neo reaching Machine City had a huge lasting impression on me

I'll second this. Reloaded was...blah and gets more blah the more I rewatch it.

#3 was really solid.
Trinity's death was well done and absolutely heartbreaking

I love sieges in movies and books.

I realise, of course, that an absurd number of people went to see Avatar, but it commands a significant hate-dom online, so I think it's fair to mention it here.

I think it's a good movie.

To go oldschool as hell, Cannonball Run (apparently this was one of Jackie chan's first ever film appearances, he had a minor role as one of the racers). My grandma had it on tape when I was younger.

A lot of people say it's a crap movie, but really, I found it hilarious and loved it. The only problem I have with it is how the ending kinda forgets that the Cannonball is a time-based Rally, NOT an actual RACE, which means that the whole rush to the finish line thing at the end is completely stupid.

Aside from that, it was awesome and I don't understand why people bash on it. XD

Starship Troopers.

It feels like nobody I know gets it.

Wait wait wait . Are you saying that there are real people who hate Starship Troopers ? Thats not possible ! Or are you talking about the whole series ? I do admit that the sequels are trash but the original is pure gold .
The original movie, not the sequels. My friends, who I've known for more than 15 years think I only like it because nostalgia.
I keep trying to tell them it's satire but they just don't get it. Everyone except my girlfriend and even she thinks it's still a bad movie.

Meeeeh whatever, these are the people who think Commando (The Arnold movie) is not even enjoyable yet strangely and somehow think The Fast and Furious series are fantastic popcorn movies. (Although I'll admit I have enjoyed the Fast and Furious movies for what they are, car porn)

Matrix Reloaded and Jurassic Park: The Lost World came to mind instantly. I really don't know why so many hate these films except some small things like how it didn't do this from the book or it didn't continue how I wished type criticisms.

I can answer for JP2. The whole environmentalist message in a movie with cloned dinosaurs that have no more place in the world is one of the bigger issues. Vince Vaughn getting dozens of people killed, because he removes the bullets from the rifle of the best hunter on the team, 'cuz we can't very well have the poor dinosaurs that are stalking us getting hurt.'

Then there's absolutely moronic moments like the girl kicking the raptor out the window with her gymnastics. And ofcourse the baffling ship carnage, where a T-Rex somehow managed to kill everyone onboard, including the people in the control-cabin, amazingly without even denting the doorframe.

In general it's the heroes acting like stubborn morons, getting a large portion of people killed, and moments where the internal logic just utterly collapses in on itself.

The only good thing about JP2 was the T-Rex rampage in San Diego.

I get it and I still don't like it. The director didn't even READ the book it was based on all the way through. He didn't even like it! WTF? That's like giving the LotR books over to someone who hates them to make it into a movie! And really, the message he trashed the book for wasn't even that good too.

If you haven't read the book, please do so. When I did, it changed the way I look at a lot of things.

The Mummy (1999) - I love this film, it's so much fun but I constantly see and hear people say it's terrible! No, the third film is terrible, the first one is fantastic! I thought this film was well-liked but recently I've seen/heard people crap all over it.
I really like Galaxy Quest but... How can anyone NOT like the first Mummy? It was a classic! It spawned two sequels (of questionable quality) and a spin-off (same thing) for a reason! Furthermore, I think it was my favorite role I've seen Brendan Fraser play. Hands down. In fact, in terms of the gruff likable adventurer, I think he gives even Indiana Jones a run for his money.

I actually kind of liked Only God Forgives. My sister and her boyfriend threatened my life after watching it because of my endorsement.

Oh, yes. I enjoyed that move too - great direction and cinematography. Drive is one of my favourite movies, so maybe I'm biased towards the work of Nicolas Winding Refn, but still Only God Forgives got too much hate.

On that note - Tree of Life. Again, amazing direction and cinematography, as well as an interesting depiction of a boy growing-up. It's the only Terrence Malick film I've seen though, so I can't judge it based on his other work.

Little Nicky and The Butterfly Effect come to my mind. Sure I can see why some people hated Little Nicky (different humor) but The Butterfly Effect? Maybe cos it wasn't starring some A list actors/ actresses?
I will hold my hand up as someone who hated Little Nicky, but not because of the humour (not 100% my cup of tea but I was happy to chuckle through), oh no, it was that god damn speech impediment that Adam Sandler was putting on for the whole movie, that tore through me like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I can't wait to tell people that Jupiter: Ascending is great... once the Director's Cut comes out.

But seriously, I loved the hell out of it, I just felt like the plot was too rushed. The action, scenery and world building were largely grand, and the ham acting out of the main villain is absolutely amazing, I was pissing myself the whole time.

Though WARNING: The film does not warn you that Sean Bean survives the film.

Well, of course it's never everyone... Funny story. I hear lackluster response to Doom the movie, which didn't even really need a plot since Doom was always the pure 'shoot everything that moves' game franchise. But nevertheless, not all that people like it, but I did meet a guy on the way back home one time who had a Doom hat on around the time of said film, so there must've been a following.

It's my opinion that Freddy Got Fingered is a genuinely well-made and funny comedy.

I'm usually quite critical, and so 'great' is pushing it. But quite often I see some reviews or the like calling Porco Rosso average instead of one of the best animated films ever. Most of my friends like all movies more than I do.

I noticed some of these as well, but they really didn't drag it down for me, though that's what this isn't about. I have to say that one thing The Lost World did really well was feel bigger than the original, unfortunately it wasn't really well thought out.

And the perfect way to start is that I really can't remember the environmentalist message or Vince Vaughn emptying his rifle at all. Sorry, I'll have to look out for that when I watch it again.

I remember I didn't like the girl impaling the raptor, I'm not sure if I could call it moronic though, just highly unlikely, and unfortunately for the boat massacre they never got to make the scene where raptors had also made it on board, and I think I read that the T-Rex eventually ate them because they tried to attack the baby. It's a goof either way but I could piece it together because of the first film.

And I'm guessing when you say the hero's getting people killed you mean the scene where they free all the dinosaurs and take the baby rex back to their van. Yeah, the point of that scene is it was a stupid mistake and that it would create chaos, obviously not the amount they wanted. It was very reckless, and there was meant to be scene where it showed them regretting all that too. It's a victim of not enough time. Though if you found it shitty altogether I do get that, but that's how it actually was originally I think.

Yeah, you've made your point. Though I still find this very easy to ignore or fill in.
