MTV Seeks Game Addicts for True Life

True Life [http://www.mtv.com], the reality television series that documents the lives of people who don't mind flaunting their problems on national television.

Debuting in 1998, True Life "has told remarkable real-life stories of young people and the unusual subcultures they inhabit." The show has covered a range of topics since then, with episodes including "I'm on Crystal Meth," "I'm a Backyard Wrester," "Sex2K" and "I'm Coming Home From Iraq." It's an interesting mix of topics, some serious and some seemingly less so, and now the show wants to turn its attention to videogame addiction.

A message posted on RealityWanted.com [http://www.realitywanted.com/] outlines what the show is looking for. "Have videogames totally taken over your life? Is your game play increasingly getting out of control? Have your friends or family confronted you about your gaming habit? How about your marriage or personal relationships - are they being affected? Is it difficult to balance work and gaming time? Do you sometimes skip doing homework or household responsibilities to play? Have you played videogames as a way of escaping your problems? Has your game playing habit become so encompassing that you may need to go to rehab to kick it?" it says. "If you can identify with any of the above, MTV wants to hear from you."

MTV encouraging dysfunctional teens to take part in shows that are all about them and feed their latent attention-whore traits? I've never seen that before.

Personally speaking, even if they offered to pay me thousands, I wouldn't participate.

yea that will never happen. the'll probably get some douche that thinks he knows what gaming is all about but the only game he ends up playing is Madden...for 3 hours

I wonder what kind of gamer they will get? Will he be into FPS's, RPG's, RTS'S, Racing games, Beat'em ups, or Sports games. Maybe it will be a girl gamer, in fact that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I have yet to ever, EVER meet a person who would actually qualify as a gaming "addict". I'll let you know when a guy starts hawking family jewelery or doing you-know-what in the back alley for a fiver jut to buy the newest releases...

I was a candidate for that show, interviews and everything.
They eventually chose my friend instead, prolly 'cause I am not dramatic enough, but never got around to making the episode...

At one place we used to work, the True Life folks approached us about an episode in the equestrian lifestyle. We turned them down, mostly because the invasion of the cameras and crew would wreck the horses' and rider's training schedules. We saw their itinerary and it was just insane from a logistical point. I don't know if they ever made the episode or not, since most of the people in the business they talked to also turned them down for the same reasons. This is not my favorite show ever.

I hate documentaries with rubbish topics like this. Theres no such thing as gaming addiction, only weak people who don't know their own limits to start with.
