I'm not giving all the advice, I just wanted to make a thread for any Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, Gears of War, etc, people that have any good info to share with the rest of the community.
You can post tips on capturing flags, advice for dealing with Snipers, strategies you like to use, or Did You Knows? for any interesting fact about a Multi FPS.

TF2:Computer
Did You Know...That when your holding out a blue-print for a Engineer's building, if you click the right-mouse button, it will rotate 90degrees! {For those laughing at this, shut up! I just found out about it. + 10 to strategic turret placement!}

COD4
A nice strategy I like to use is to create my own class, giving him perks to make him faster but then give him a heavy weapon, like a shot-gun. When playing, I dash across secret entrances, little-used paths, or something of the like. I'll usually find some stray that either A) is easy kill or B) was planning on doing a sneak attack from behind.

So, dear Escapist Community, what sage advice to you have to offer?

Team Fortress 2:
  • There's a bit, just inside the water, on 2Fort where a sniper can stand up.
Spies! When you leave the water cloaked, your drip and we see you.
We also see you for the 2 seconds after you cloak as there's a coloured outline of you.
Pyros! Flame everyone, they might be disguised spies.

General Advice: Shoot first, ask questions later.

TF2: The pyro is one of the best defenses for an Uber. Use the compressed air blast to push the medic away leave the other character exposed.

In GoW2 use the Hammerburst. That gun rocks my socks. I've gotten 27 takedown is one round of submission with it.

I have been playing TF2 for almost a year and had no frigging idea, you could do that... and I'm pretty damn good as an Engineer...

TF2

My advice as a Spy: Only ever disguise as a: Sniper, Engineer, Demoman or a Pyro.

As they have legitimate reasons for being in a base, although Pyro depends on the team as some people will expect you to be flaming non-stop.

The reasons not to be the others:

Scout: Never in the base normally, and usually moves erratically, easy to tell.
Medic: They will expect healing and will figure out you're a spy quickly because of it.
Soldier: Again, rarely in the base.
Heavy: They almost always move with their minigun revved, as a spy you can't.
Spy: Again, rarely in the base.

This may seem obvious, but I see people trying over and over again to be the last 5 mentioned and I find them each time (even funnier when they disguise as a Medic repeatedly when we have no Medic on our team).

Find some good hiding spots for your health to regenerate or in short: learn the maps
Thats probably the single most useful piece of advice
Complete the main storyline is another useful one
Oh and don't think a weapon is nooby or anything like that. E.g. I got better at Halo because I started using the needler
It might seem obvious advice but so many people online don't remember this simple pieces of advice

TF2: Spies, stop running towards our base disguised as one of ours! Give yourself a chance!
Pyros, the Backburner is for Noobs, use Compression Blast and Shotgun!
People in General: STOP going Heavy in times of crises as if it was some kind of Uberclass, you'll just become an easy target.

I do hate it when we've nearly lost and people panic and go Heavy. IT DOSEN'T HELP!

Scouts in TF2; you might not have realised it yet, but the Scattergun is the best weapon in the game. Period. Try to sneak up on people, confuse them with double-jumps and erratic movement, and try to get as close as you can before you start shooting. You can take down a Heavy with 4 well-placed shots. Retreat, heal, repeat. It's also surprisingly effective as a defensive class, as you can sneak up on advancing enemies and pump some hot lead in the back of their collective heads.

Edit: Medics! If you're not healing anyone and you're trying to get some kills, only use the syringe gun at long range, or against Scouts and Pyros. For every other situation, the Bonesaw is the answer. The crit-rate on that weapon is insane, and you're faster than Heavies, Soldiers and Demos anyway.

Team Fortress 2

All Spy tips, as I am a successful Spy (we are rare).

Do not bother getting a backstab if a sentry/other player can see you, as you will die.

If you can sap something , even if the engy can see you, do. Then keep on sapping as you can sap quicker than he can knock them off. Nine times out of ten the engy will panic, and go for the building first, not you.

Do not cloak in water.

Do not uncloak right behind someone - they can hear you

If you are discovered, cloak, disguise, uncloak. All while running.

Pyschological warfare can be useful. Uncloak in front of engineers and their nests. They will become paranoid and jumpy.

Work with other spies - no pyro spychecks a group of teammates. Say... a medic and a heavy.

Do not stop to try and get a kill if you are doing something else. Sod's law dictates that you will fail

Do not chase a backstab. Let them go.

Behave like you are on their team, not like you want to get behind them. If you are not spychecked, go with someone on their team. Let them go past you in a tight space, and don't backstab them.

Disguise as the person you just killed. You have no idea how many people fall for this.

If you have the Dead Ringer, use it skillfully. It is hard to get used to losing your cloak.

If you have the Cloak and Dagger, then don't use it like a normal cloak. Hide in corners, shadows, and away from conflict to let your cloak regenerate.

If you see a pyro coming head on, then you should just run. You are better off alive, and with a suspicious pyro than dead, with a satisfied pyro.

On Call of Duty 4

On Overgrown, in the attic overlooking point C in Domination, or the field with the hay bales if you don't play domination. Up the stairs are some boxes. You can crouch on one of these, next to the top of the stairs. You are in a blind spot. Unless you shoot, nobody will see you there for a long time.

When calling in an airstrike, go prone away from the action. Sounds simple, but I've seen a lot of people die like that.

If you're not shooting, or have an LMG, then reload. It doesn't take long and is invaluable to have the extra shots.

Do not charge with a shotgun - you will be killed. Flank, and try to come round and close to the enemy

Place your claymores round corners, at the top of stairs, or under cars. Not in the middle of a door.

If you hear that click, you can live. Jump backwards instantly, and you should be fine.

Snipers, do not just go for the kill. If someone has gotten an airstrike, make them your priority. Same goes for someone who is dominating your team

If you are fighting for a favourite sniping spot, move. There is no point getting bogged down in close range warfare when you can migrate to a different position.

Do not underestimate the range of SMGs. They can shoot surprisingly far.

Do not shoot RPGs at people - shoot them at cars, or at the ground near their feet, or at a chopper.

Four clips of AK ammo can take down a chopper. You don't need LMGs or RPGs.

Work as a team to take down the chopper. If you all fire a clip at it, it will drop like a stone.

If the enemy know where you are, hide and set a trap. If there are lots of them, run. If there is just one, get into a good position, and kill them.

If, as a sniper, you see someone on their way to your position, and you don't kill them, get ready for them. Secondary weapon out, behind cover, aiming at the door.

Do not underestimate the range of a shotgun with Stopping Power and Steady Aim. Lots of people die trying to make it to close quarters.

If you can use iron sights as well as a Red Dot Sight, then use a silencer. It makes a big difference.

With a silencer, know your enemy - loads of UAVs? Use UAV Jammer. Not so many? Use Stopping Power.

I think that's most of them. I've got a few more for CoD4, but I'll be rambling forever.

Quake 3 Arena and Quake Live: learn your advanced jumps for better map control! Such as the obvious rocket jump and strafe jump but also plasma climbing and the circle jump. Learn your maps and know which jumps can get you where fast. Playing on QL clan arena and watching the top players can teach you a whole lot about a map.

More than anything, KEEP MOVING! Never stop to look around or admire what you have just accomplished, you'll have plenty of time to admire it once the job is done.

Also, learn to use that starting weapons to the best of your ability. When people have already taken the special weapons, it will help you NOT become one of those pretentious FUCKTARDS who team kill for it, ***** and whine, or always go for it when the match starts and be ridiculed for it.

Be better then the others by being the best and efficient with the useless, and this may sound cheesy, but try to take some pride and honor it what you're doing. You're already lonely, you might as well feel good about what you're doing. =P

I use the strategy "Shoot the other players" and it's very affective! Another good strategy is to aim for the head!

TF2 is my expertise, pyros are my specialty

When cloaking a spy will appear slightly their team's color take advantage of this
Pyros and definetly spies, never take the direct route to the battlefield
Pyros spy check everyone
The best setup for a defensive pyro is probably the normal flamethrower, the flare gun and the axetinguisher. That compression blast will be a life saver

TF2 Protip: Get on the fucking point!

Red Orchestra Protip: When using a bolt action rifle with the bayonet attached in close combat, fire from the hip and immediately lunge and stab. Hip firing is faster than going into iron sights and if you miss the shot you have a chance to stab the bastard.

Heavy: Remember that you can jump. Finding an unexpected spot above a choke point can lead to many easy kills, and jumping can mean the difference between a sniper killing you in one hit, and you getting away.

careful use of revving and not revving is key to playing a Heavy well. If you walk around revving all the time, you'll be picked off by SNipers so easily, it'll make you cry

Oh, and hit the damn Medic.. by yourself you'll never outgun another Heavy being healed by a medic. Failing to hit the medic, focus on some of the pair's support, such as Soldiers or Pyros. But seriously, hit the fucking medic.

They key to combat is to keep moving. The longer one stays in one place, the greater the risk of becoming trapped there and become a target. Keep moving when possible!

Know the difference between cover and concealment! They are not the same! I see a lot of snipers that think they are protected/hidden in a lot of different FPS games... They aren't and they die!

Snipers are tough to deal with by their very nature. If playing a realistic FPS, you may have problems since you may not know they are there, and you may never even hear the shot that gets you. The best solution for dealing with a sniper is to first be alert of an area where they could be operating. If that is not an option, try some recon fire. Fire a few shots into wherever you think they may be hiding to try and scare them into firing back. If they do, either you or a teammate can grease them. This has worked for me on ArmA, OFP, Battlefied 2 as well as Battlefield 2142, and the original COD. The only problem is that it requires a great deal of coordination.
