I've really only gotten into The Fly, Alien, Aliens,The thing, and prometheus. Can you guys tell me some other Sci Fi horror films you've enjoyed?

I love this genre combo.

Event Horizon is a must see if you like this combo. It's an amazing entry into the genres that sticks with me to this day.

I also like to pretend it takes place in the Warhammer 40k canon (as many fans do) because it makes both better by pretending such.

Event Horizon comes to mind, the only film that Paul W.S Anderson ever put up that I can truly call good.

Well, I was going to say Event Horizen, but apparently it's more popular than I realized.

While they're more actiony, I can recommend both Terminator and Predator. (EDIT: although, I guess you already have Aliens on the list, so those will be fine. Alien 3 is, in my minority opinion at least, a fairly good flick.)

Part of me wants to recommend Hellraiser: Bloodline because it's set in space, but that part of me is an asshole.

For something different, check out Pandorum [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1188729/] (2009). It has Ben Foster in it as a non-creepy person, for a change. You may remember him from Lone Survivor but for me, his pivotal creepy role was in 30 Days of Night.

I also recommend Mimic [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119675/] (1997) (Director's Cut), directed by the venerable Guillermo Del Toro. IMDB doesn't think much of that movie, but who cares, it's fuckin' Guillermo Del Toro Goddamit!

Going a bit further back you have Species [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114508/] (1995), starring a very naked Natasha Henstridge at the start of her career.

And if you don't mind going really, really far back, I recommend Forbidden Planet [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/] (1956), which was purportedly a major inspiration for Gene Roddenberry for the original Star Trek. He denied it, but there's supposed proof out there that he was indeed influenced by it. I can't find the article, but if you see it for yourself you may find some similarities. I personally love this movie because you get to see a young Leslie Nielsen when he was a
total badass
decades before he started playing a bumbling cop [http://www.thefancarpet.com/uploaded_assets/images/gallery/4496/Naked_Gun_33_13_The_Final_Insult_41799_Medium.jpg]. I bought the Forbidden Planet Blu-ray and the picture's gorgeous. Be warned, this movie takes its time. It slows down late in the movie, but back then, people were patient.

.
Some other mentions:
Forbidden World [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083959/] (1982) - some serious naked scenes in this cheesarific ripoff of the first Alien (yes, I have this on Blu-ray as well).

The Thing From Another World [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/] (1951) - This much earlier film is what was later remade by John Carpenter into "The Thing". You can read the original short story "Who Goes There?", which is what those movies were based on, here [http://nzr.mvnu.edu/faculty/trearick/english/rearick/readings/manuscri/Who%20Goes%20There/Who%20Goes%20There%20Index.htm]. I like this version as well because it's from a different era. Historically, it's believed that this movie contains the first instance of a stuntman in a full-body burn scene. That scene is kinda nuts if you watch it because
there are actors just feet away from flames burning up into the ceiling.
The Dead Zone [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085407/] (1983) - I guess you could call this horror/sci-fi. It's not really sci-fi in the way we're used to thinking nowadays. Still, it's worth a watch.

And finally, there's The Mist [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0884328/]. If you can get over the terrible special effects (and HAVE NOT read the novella by Stephen King) I recommend this movie. Some very horrible things happen in it and I liked King's original story so much that it kind of carried the movie for me.

*EDIT* Eh, never mind about The Mist. There's so much stupidity in this movie.

I didn't want to make a wall of text (or a much larger wall of text) so I'm also recommending that you watch:

The Blob (1958 and 1988) - The original, starring Steve McQueen, is actually kind of horrifying believe it or not. It's rather creepy; something about it disturbs me greatly. In that respect, even without the gory special effects of the 1988 remake, I find the 1958 version to be much more horrifying somehow.

There are similar movies from the 80s you might look into, like The Stuff and a whole bunch that I can't remember.

Oh right, there's also The Relic [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120004/] (1997) - Just turn off your brain and enjoy the movie. I actually liked it, but then again, I don't like analyzing things (too much) because I want to enjoy what I watch. Also, "It's a movie" is the only defense I really need. I guess this isn't sci-fi at all. Sorry.

And finally (and this is NOT a recommendation, merely an afterthought) I guess after you've had your fill and are scraping the bottom of the barrel, I guess you could watch Aliens vs Predator Requiem (unrated). This sci-fi movie is more horror than anything. In fact, the unrated version is basically an "Alien" version of "SAW". Some insanely terrible things happen in this movie and it still grosses me out just thinking about it.

Er, Carpenter made a movie based on the same story as this, but that's like saying a modern version of Hamlet is a reboot of the Lion King.

I'd definitely second this film, though. As an aside, the Geiger counter stuff supposedly inspired the motion tracker from the Alien films.

Also recommend Forbidden Planet, but not sure if either of these films were really horror.

The Cube is a good Sci-fi horror movie. Very claustrophic, character focused and uses a relatively small budget rather well. I'm also going to say Event Horizon like the sheep I am. Baaaaaa

A great post, this!

Two things- the original Blob was pretty cool, but the remake was to me a far scarier adaptation of the concept- it was a waaay more aggressive entity. I also thought Dean Koontz Phantoms was good, but it was the novel that really sold me- since I read a lot of horror growing up, I usually had the book before the movie, and this was one of Dean Koontz's best (in my opinion).

The second movie I wanted to address that you mentioned was The Relic, part of the Special Agent Pendergast series, and in my opinion the second best of the novels- the sequel, Reliquary, I actually found more thrilling. The movie was alright, but again, the book was just hard to beat- though I always appreciate the efforts!

As to movies I'd recommend in the genre of Sci-Fi Horror, I'd say Apollo 18 and Europa Report were both fun, if a bit samey 'found footage' style movies- currently my favourite style of film. Also, Sunshine had some genuinely touching moments- all over the map for plausibility, but at least I never found it boring. I also just took in The Colony, which was kind of like Pandorum meets an ice age. Lots of green screen, but well done stuff, if a bit predictible.

Does The Thing (1982) count as Sci-Fi Horror? If it does, then it should be at the top of the list, always.

Phantoms! I was trying to rember that one but I forgot the name. I liked that one. It's got Batfleck in it, right?

And I had no idea The Relic was based on a book! I'm going to have to seek out that series now. Also, good call on Sunshine. I really like that movie. It's oddly beautiful and often overlooked in my opinion. Which reminds me, I think the OP should add The Last Days on Mars to his list. I wouldn't buy the Blu-ray, if you get my drift, but it's worth viewing once at least.

Dark City(1998) is good. A man who may be a killer but does not remember it has to solve the mystery of what's going on while being stalked by bald albino men. I refuse to say more because it would ruin it.

Night of the Creeps(1986) is more horror dark comedy than SciFi but there is just enough to give it an interesting flavor.

Phantoms is, indeed, a Batflick vehicle- a fun movie, that one.

And I don't want to butter them up too much, but the Agent Pendergast series of novels had some really cool ideas in them- the series is hard to lock down in tone, sometimes like a 007 novel, sometimes like straight up horror, sometimes a cop procedural, but I found it charming for all that.

Aaaaand that was all the incentive I need to finally check out The Last Days on Mars- Netflix has been recommending it for days, and I haven't really ever put stock in reviews of horror, but your taste in movies assures me that it's worth my time to give it a go!

Seconded, but be sure you track down the director's cut. The original theatrical release has a studio-mandated voiceover at the beginning that spoon-feeds a lot of the background of the story to you, and it's really grating.

Oh God. The horror of it. To this day, I still get gut-wrenchingly awful flashbacks whenever I clap eyes on a maternity ward.

OT: And another recommendation for Event Horizon. Seriously, if you're into sci-fi horror this may just be THE one absolute must-see film for you. Make sure to watch it in the dark and with a proper sound system!

Other good movies in this rather broad category include the (aforementioned) Dark City (more sci-fi than horror), Pandorum (both in equal measure) and The Thing (more horror than sci-fi).

Invasion of the body snatchers?
Pitch Black?

You should for sure watch Pandorum though, that is a good one. And Event Horizon is pretty cool, probably the most horror scifi that is mentioned so far.

So has anyone recommended Event Horizon yet? Awesome movie!

Oh...hmm...well...

I liked Deep Rising. Kind of near-future meets Cthulu. Bit of a guilty pleasure.

PS I am one of those 40k fans that points at Event Horizon and say, "yeah, its kind of like that" when trying to explain the Warp.

I will second The Cube as a good sci-fi horror. It had a sequel, The Cube II as well as a prequel, Cube Zero. It's a bit mind bendy, gruesome in parts, chilling in others but each film reveals a tiny sliver of background on the bigger picture. Sadly, even all three combined don't paint a full picture...it would be great to learn more about the whole thing.

I would also add an oldie to the list. Maximum Overdrive with Emilio Estevez (Charlie Sheen's brother). It's 80s/90s, a film about machines "coming to life" when the Earth passes thru the tail of a comet.

Jason X, if you want some sci-fi cheese. It's a bad movie, but in a good way. Jason Vorhees escapes from cryogenic stasis and...well he does what Jason does. I'm going to include an absolutely brilliant scene from film where Jason, after years and years in stasis, is reunited with the only thing he's ever really cared about.

I'm sure what happens next is quite obvious :)

This imdb list [http://www.imdb.com/search/title?count=100&genres=horror,sci_fi&num_votes=10000,&title_type=feature] has some great suggestions too. Though I would immediately remove "Species" from that list; it's a terrible film, bad enough that even Natasha Henstridge's boobs can't save it.

The only ones I can think to add are Tremors (it's also comedic) and Sunshine. Sunshine is probably my favorite Danny Boyle film

Since all of my recommendations have already been listed, I'll simply package 'em all in a neat little list.

1. Event Horizon
2. The Mist
3. Sunshine
4. Pandorum
5. Pitch Black
6. Predator (and Predators)
7. Dark City

I haven't seen 'Cube' yet, but I hear great things.
