I'd go Dragon Age. I've played both, but DA:O is the one that's held my interest across the board. MW2 is basically MW with improved graphics, some slight gameplay improvements, and a slightly different but no less generic story. Dragon Age is a completely new title, with a new world and engaging story. The thing to take out of that ZP review is that it held Yahtzee's interest and he still wants to know what happens next after 25 hours of gameplay (which is about slightly less than halfway through the story). The other criticisms he had (for instance, that the cutscenes made the characters fall into the uncanny valley) seemed off base to me. It's also definitely darker than a lot of fantasy works (Fable and Oblivion come to mind). Yahtzee hadn't played through the whole thing, so he didn't realize just how dark it can get. The choices you make in the game are numerous, varied, and have long-reaching effects. It's another one of those games that makes you agonize over what to do on more than one occasion. And no morality bar means you can follow you're own moral compass.

In short, DA:O is far more rewarding. It's also got killer replayability. I just beat the game with a mage, now I'm going back as a City Elf rogue and finding so much is different. The origin stories really do effect the whole game, particularly as you visit locations which tie into your own origin. But anyway, that's my recommendation. If you want a good, immersive, engaging, single-player experience, you can't do better than Dragon Age.

Was wondering what should be my next purchase? Modern Warfare 2 or Dragon Age: Origins
Just finished Demon's Souls and Dragon Age was looking like my next purchase until the ZP review.
MW2 has been getting rave reviews and I need me some head shot fix. So just wondering, thanks.
Every time somebody takes ZP seriously, God kills a kitten.

Hahaha how is MW 2 not the same thing over and over again? Go shoot this guy, go shoot that guy....
SPOILER ALERT idk how to do the thing 4 that

because it's highly skill based, and highly refined after 6 games in more years.
and haz u even played MW2?
get shot in the face after massacring ppl - Highly original concept...
get blown the fuck up in orbit - Nope... can't say I haven't seen this 8 million times already either... Halo comes tom mind
stealth in a snow storm ( find another gg that haz that ) Metal Gear? How about Lost Planet?
blow up every car on the bridge while being shot at Well I would hope you were being shot it if you were trying to blow up a car... but blow up x number of item y has been done several times, like Borderlands, Gears, Fallout 3, etc.
exchange .50 cals with ghillie suited snipers Sniper battles? You're right... those are entirely new
drive a boat In an action game? NEVER! Not in Gears, Saints Row 2, Uncharted, etc...
drive a snow mobile Nope don't remember this... oh wait... James Bond games have had this for years :)
drive a jeep with a dead driver onto a plane Hmm, with a dead driver and onto a plane you say... ok, having a hard time coming up with that one
retake the capitol building Fallout 3, Ultimate Alliance 2
retake the mall Fallout 3, Ultimate Alliance 2
shoot from a rifle in a heli Hmm, Halo, Gears, several other FPS's
shoot a minigun from a heli See above, but add Saints Row 2
use an AC130 to cover your buddy So a giant plane armed to the tits? I dunno, Battlefield, 1943, there's a lot of flight combat games out there
shoot noobs Pretty much every multi-player FPS in existence....

yes, it all involves killing, death, dying, or all 3 at a massive scale, in a modern setting, but isnt DAO just the same thing dialed a few hundred yrs ago in a mythical land?
if you want that much story, read a fucking book for once. or 9. or watch a movie. their writers are much better than video game writers. Well, DA:O is a bit different in that you have different weapons, unique fantasy characters, magic and.... oh, a story...

MW2 dosent have a generic story. It dosent take place in WW2. Your not fighting all the time against evil nazis. It dosent seep american patrotism from every pore. So what you're saying is that it's good because it's not like the past call of duty games?
No, you're right... it's a highly original concept and I'm surprised no one has done anything like this ever before.

The DNA would prove his Identity and that being American.
While his plan was idiotic it DID work...untill You know who was freed from you know where.
Do you... think that there is global DNA registry where they have a sample of everybody's DNA from all over the world paired with their name, address, and occupation or something?

I facepalm epicly everytime someone bases an opinion on yahtzees opinion pieces, the man does not review he spouts out a few humourous lines, nitpicks are problems that are readily apparent or inconsequential and acts controverisal for net traffic. You cannot, cannot give an hounest review in 4 minutes or less.

Both are decent games, its apples and oranges. However I'd say Dragon Age is far better on the PC and MW2 just isn't up to scratch as a PC game though its a fine console one (lets not start an angrytank debate here)

So I'd say if you really can't decide, go for DA if you're a PC gamer and MW2 if you're a console.

Though personally as a PC gamer I'd prefer you didn't give any money to those twats at IW but they made a decent game and thats your decision to make.

Really it just depends if you prefer FPS or RPG they are both outstanding examples of their respective genres.

Dragon age: origins. I don't think their is a freewilled golem called shale that can go toe to toe with an arch demon in Mw2. Also, there is a hell of a lot of Dlc coming out for Dragon age. Ontop of that the story veration between simply playing male and female characters is vast let alone the extra three you have following you.

I haven't played Mw2, but lets be honest here people. Every fps is the same bland poop over and over again, shoot people. At least Dragon age has the awsome bridge puzzle on the ashes chain quest... IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO SOLVE THAT PUZZLE!

Any point you were attempting to make was immediately invalidated by this single ignorant statement.

Oh, and I almost forgot: Dragons Age has Alistair.

Sorry, but I'll take my goof-ball Gray Warden boytoy over every gun, ACOG scope and hilarious Mohawk in the world.

Also, did I mention I'm almost 160 hours into Dragons Age, and I've only beaten it once? I'm still working through my second play-through and, despite what Yhatzee said, there ARE larger differences in play-throughs, both due to different backgrounds AND due to different choices you can make, which DO range between a larger gaument between "Nice," "neutral" and "naughty"

Dragons Age is fucking awesome.

Also my copy of Modern Warfare 2 keeps crashing on me.

;_;

depends what you want from the games
If you want a solid RPG that will make you want to play it for hours and hours with a very in-depth story line (which is more or less what ZP said)
or do you want a FPS with good multiplayer, and a short single player (finish it in a day, easy) with a good story line.

I am going to steal that GIF now.

Also, yeah, saying every FPS is just shooting people over and over is like saying every RPG is just collecting loot and talking to various bland NPCs and hitting monsters with swords.

Some RPGs have guns and swords. And swords that are also guns.
