So socially I am more of the anti-emotional type. I don't show negative emotions to my friends and if I do it is anger heh. So I am using this forum as my outlet here.

My cat Jebby had been with me since I was 8 and now I am 15 making him 7. I had his mother but she died a bit after giving birth to him, but I was to young to remember now how. He has been my buddy since then always hanging with me and sleepn with me but today he was diagnosed with cancer. He has a very large lump on his side that isn't really that noticeable because of his fur and body type, that's not saying he's not healthy because he very much is, but as I said we found out that lump was cancer and that sucks. He is in the prime of his life, which I would say is 6-9 for a healthy cat and we have another cat that is 17 now so we were not expecting this one to go, by any means. It's not attached to his origins, just his flesh so now he is not experiencing pain but the vet wanted to put him down today.

What do you all think about this. Anything that can cheer me up or any stories of an animal that died on you.

There is an old norse belief that when a cat dies, it carries news of all the things it's master did in life to the gods. Thus if you treat your cat well, it acts as your spokesperson in the afterlife.
I like the idea that your pets carry good memories of you when they die.

Sorry to hear that.

I used to have a border collie/sheltie mix and he came down with pancreatitis when he was only 9 years old. We took him to the vet and had to put him down because we couldn't afford the treatment. That was on January 14, 2008.

My friends cat caught Aids from losing an eye with another Cat, Ouch.

Lets see, i had two collies as a kid, but we moved to China so we couldn't bring them with us, I loved them so much it hurt to lose them, there gone now, The first twin was hit by a Garbage truck while chasing a rabbit, Typical of him, poor guy.

And the other one died of a real old age, typical of him as well.

That's terrible, I'm sorry to hear it. My cat died at 19 because of cancer, it was terrible but she was such an amazing cat, my parents had her longer than me.

Is your cat curable?

Aww, sorry dude. My dog had arthritis, cancer and was blind in one eye so we had him put down when I was about 6/7? Losing a pet is awful, I love kitties more than humans sometimes so I don't know what I'd do if I lost my cat.

lol. I don't believe in ancient Norse mythology either.
But imagine all the good things about you that your cat knows. To a pet, you are a wonderful person (not saying you're not in real life)

Well I wouldn't mind if he was around the 16+ age because I mean life dies, it's just the fact that he is young and had so much more life in front him.

They are going to do a surgery on him but it probably will not cure him. Also now he is active like never before it doesn't seem to bother him and what if the surgery actually puts him in much pain and he still dies.

That is bad news and I am sorry to hear it. Was there a biopsy to confirm the nature of the mass?

Em, really? Unless I've read that incorrectly.

OT: I've noticed a lot of pets get a disease rather than dying of plain old age. Not sure if that's just me though.

Sorry about your cat though Mr. OP.

Vets don't always get it right, infact a lot of them are full of shit. You really should try to get a trustable vet.

Anyway, I had a similar situation. I had a cat and we got it before I was born and it stayed with me till I was around 13. The cat got older than 20, so it really was a long companion for my family.

My cat used to love sitting outside and bathing in the sun, sometimes even on the road. The neighbours knew about it, so it wasn't any problem. Then one time a truck ran it over, deliberatly because he could clearly see the cat lying there (fucking bastard), he quickly stopped and then just rolled over. Anyway so we got the cat to the vet and he basically wanted to amputate both hind legs. One leg was crushed, the other had some damage. My mum decided against it and with patience she was able to care for the cat and his legs which led to the cat being able to walk again within a few months. Everything was alright.

Cat AIDS is a really common disease. My cats had it too. It basically transfers when cats fight and there is blood swapping. I don't think it's really fatal, but it does lead to some complications.

I was not at the vet but I am almost certain he does since they are going to do surgery on him that will cause a lot of pain and has a good chance of not working.

My Dads girlfriend has been going to this vet since she was 18, she is 39 now. He has never been wrong with any of the animals she has brought there.
