I've been a nintendo fanboy ever since I got my 64 and I know fanboy is a dirty word but I think it appropriately describes the brand fondness I have for Nintendo because of all the great times they have given me in the past, its not that I don't like Sony or Microsoft (I have a 360), its just nintendo has always had that special place in my heart (sounds a little lame I know but its the truth). However since the wii which I had such faith in and now the wiiU I feel slightly abandoned by Nintendo. I've never had any second thoughts before on not purchasing any nintendo console but I think this might about do it unless I am seriously impressed in the following weeks or if they announce another zelda on it...

oh and luigis mansion 2........... what the hell nintendo....?

I actually agree. I feel really bad, but I'm seriously considering getting the PS4 instead. But not getting the new Nintendo console feels like burning a piece of my childhood. The thought of not being able to play the next Super Smash Bros, Pikmin, or Metroid makes me depressed...

...So, what exactly is your problem with Nintendo? And there's nothing wrong with making Luigi's Mansion 2, there are people who enjoyed the first one you know.

Personally, I didn't particularly like the conference, not sure why, I just didn't find it too interesting. Don't get me wrong, it was still better than Microsoft's lame 1.5 hour kinect speech which focused on putting in old features into new games, and making their key franchise accommodate kinect to the degree they are completely different, but that another story. The only problem I had with the confrence was when they showed the wii u and the controller, and I was like "holy shit that controller is like a foot across". Maybe its just me, but I don't want to be holding a large clunky controller like that.

That's my thought exactly, I'll hold off on it until they release the WiiU lite

First of all, Luigi's Mansion 2 was my favorite game announcement at E3. >_>
Secondly, well...

Wait wait wait...you've been a fan since one of Nintendo's marketing mixups sticking with cartridges?

And you feel abandoned by the company that actually offered the features that the loudest and probably the smallest have been demanding for?

-HD graphics
-Hardcore games
-Better online(possibility)

And you feel abandoned because not only did they deliver on all of these but actually did yet again something both Sony and microsoft haven't done yet?(I should note that sony and Microsoft are doing things that nintendo are obviously aren't doing)

Look it's been five years and it is time for the next generation of consoles and considering Nintendo is the current giant they are going above and beyond. I'm wondering if you watched their conference at all considering now they've been the best in show for two years now even if their 3DS didn't exactly sell consistently well as the DS. Despite even giving EXACTLY what the small demographic wants their own personal profits have shrunk greatly. Nintendo does need to make this move because they are an actual video game company, not a subsidiary of an electronics company or a software company both giants in their own industry.

If you look at the content it was clear Nintendo is going to attempt to deliver to both the hardcore and the casual markets who have invested in the Wii. Also if you did notice aside from the tablet controller did you notice that they are supporting compatibility will all wii games and controllers? That tells me that there is the possibility that Nintendo isn't going to have their community invest in four different controllers all over again. That they are going to utilize the wiimotes, classic controllers and other accessories for their Wii U. Also notice they never went past showing more than one Wii U controller, that should hint to you that the prototype currently is only going to support a single tablet as a main controller and not have multiple feeds.

What they have could actually offer is what makes a video game console a video game console instead of a computer.
This.

Let me tell you my Nintendo fanboy story (just for comparison's sake). You see, I was a hardcore Nintendo fanboy since the NES- I refused to play or support any other console. Sega Genesis? No thank you. When the N64 came out I saved up for nine straight months and bought it Day One. Sony PlayStation? Ignored it. The Gamecube is announced- by this time I was starting college. I worked about 40 hours a week on top of having a 17-credit courseload. I walked to fucking Wal-Mart in a snowstorm and bought that one Day One. Xbox? Screw that noise! I got Rogue Squadron and.... Suh.... Super Monkey Ball...

This trend continued all the way through to the Wii finally coming out. This time I spent 9 hours in line to get it one long cold December night/morning. But by this time, my devout patience had been waning. All these years, I stood by Nintendo as they fleeced me for a handful of games and gave the third-parties an indifferent shrug. I stuck by the elf and the plumber.

...And then came E3 2007 and Wii Fit. For me it was straw that broke the camel's back. I stood up for Nintendo so for long and for what, so they could start pandering to people who look at my past time, the games I grew up on as a novelty?

Months later, after refusing to ever buy another console, I finally gave in and bought myself a 360, Bioshock, and GTA4. I do not regret it.

Still, coming into this E3, I was skeptical at best to see what Nintendo would be bringing. I laughed at one of my best friends who said it was going to be HD. I balked at the idea that they would ever again cater to the so-called "hardcore" market. So I watched the news conference this morning...

...damn. And just when I thought I was over you, Nintendo...

I actually was talking to a friend of mine about this the other day on Facebook and I had written up this Note summarizing my thoughts on the matter. Here it is, copied from there.

Some people are quick to greenlight everything Nintendo does without question, fanboys of the highest caliber. Other people are quick to dismiss Nintendo as a kiddy game company behind the times in terms of what the other systems are doing: online multiplayer, HD, multimedia, etc. Here is what I think of Nintendo, and there's a little bit of truth in both arguments.

Nintendo is and has always been ahead of the game in some way or another, and a trendsetter. It single-handedly invented the story-based video game with Donkey Kong, saved console gaming with the NES, ruled the 16-bit era with the SNES, invented effective analog gaming, created the first four-player system and truly did invent 3D graphic gaming with the 64, invented true 3D gaming with the Virtual Boy somewhere in there (albeit in awful execution), invented handheld gaming with the Gameboy, turned touch screens into an innovative new gaming control scheme with the DS, took motion control and turned it into an effective and fun way to control games with the Wii, and now they've made the first gaming device to use 3D capabilities without the use of glasses in the 3DS. They're immensely innovative and geniuses of their craft, but if they don't do something before everyone else does, they don't want to do it at all. See: disc-based game format, multimedia support, HD support, serious online multiplayer support, solid third party support, the list goes on. Nintendo feels the need to innovate, and if they weren't the inventors of a certain aspect of gaming, they don't want anything to do with it. It's narrow-minded and egotistical, and Nintendo will eventually learn the hard way that they need to admit once in a while that someone else did something before they did that they should be doing as well. They're too prideful and full of themselves, and I think that's their biggest downfall.

The same rings true for their franchises. Granted that Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and their other major first party IP's usually consist of solid material and buying one of those games often results in a good purchase, but Nintendo relies too much on that small handful of franchises and seem to be afraid to try new things outside of gameplay innovations. By that I mean fresh, new ideas for games or series that they haven't already done dozens of times. Pikmin was a risk-taking new IP and it performed wonderfully. Though of course, it was Miyamoto doing what he does best once again. What will happen to Nintendo when the inevitable day of Miyamoto's death comes? They won't be able to ride the money train chugging along the tracks of his brain forever. Sure, they could and will continue to pump out new titles in his beloved franchises, but without him working on them it's entirely possible that they won't retain their same charm and vision and will being a downhill slide. Of course it's always interesting to see what wacky things Mario, Link, Samus, and Kirby are up to in their next adventure, but the industry is still waiting for Nintendo to break out of its comfort zone and create some amazing new ideas to spring from. If Nintendo were as ballsy with their IP as they are with their technology, I think they would truly represent the greatest game company out there, but as it stands, their story and character ideas are slowly growing stale. Unfortunately, until they learn to overcome that sense of prideful stubbornness, they'll simply continue to be the same old Nintendo. We love them, but we should still be able to acknowledge when they need to grow up a little.

The WiiU looks amazing, at first I hated the controllers but then I thought a bit on it and they seem really cool and I cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on them. Also you should change that last sentence to "Luigi's mansion 2? THANK YOU NINTENDO!"

Xbox is hopeing Sega will help them make their new Xbox... Thats why you seen Xbox promoting and buying ALOT of their shares.... IFF you pay attention to that sort of thing.

Nintendo Wii was the only nintendo console that wasn't trying to out perform the other consoles. They made Xbox and Sony implement a motion device just to try to compete with that lower performance console. Kinect hit its woo point already. As the price begin to drop. Playstation move is actually gaining ground.

I'm really excited as soon as I saw that lil bird flying around to promote the Wii U -- I bet that was the console rendering the graphics .

Nintendo is a smart company -- They put a lot of thought and effort into any title that has that Nintendo logo on it. And when you think about it the Wii alone got OLD ppl and YOUNG ppl together. They are in the market to entertain everyone not just one crowd.

When the Playstation one first arose I was major skeptical. But now they deemed themselves as a great manufacturer after seeing the PS2 and PS3.
Giving players the best technology avaliable... The COOLest games. Free Internet gaming.. And really listening to their audience.

Microsoft Xbox... I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. First Xbox i didn't buy -- I didn't hate it either because... ya know.. new console.. learning the tech... Clunky movements with the controller, crap games.. ect...
Xbox360 came out and really Microsoft shows what they think of their community... "PAY US"
You pay 10 a month for crappy online connections...
You pay 10 a month to use services you already own[netflix]...
YOU PAY 10 A MONTH TOO WATCH STUPID &*%*)%*(^_^%&*%&* ADVERTISEMENTS... OHH and DO NOT FORGET those COMMERCIALS YOU WATCH, READ ON XBOX GIVE MICROSOFT MONEY TO BE ON THERE.

YOU PAY 10 A MONTH TO EVEN USE THE MULTIPLAYER FEATURE ON A GAME[THAT you already purchased when buying the game]
I hate xbox 360... I only got it fr my friends who have it..

Im going to get the Nintendo Wii U... They have a new console and a very clever innovative controller - Nintendo does not piss on their audience like Microsoft does. Nintendo does different, innovative things that, no one is sure at first but then its pretty fun. I really hope to see more things of it before it releases.

I don't see why you should be disappointed in either the Wii or the Wii U. Even though the Wii has a lot of shovelware, it still has a good number of great games like No More Heroes 1+2, Metroid Prime Triology, House of the Dead Overkill, Trauma Team and many more. Nobody forces you to buy party-games and kids-games after all, just buy the games you like.
