I am glad that you are back. I am disappointed that you choose this movie to publish last weekend. Instead of one of the new releases. I saw three of them that came out last weekend. All of them were original IPs. Instead of the belated sequel and a belated movie spinoff. The best part are all of them were really good. If you are not interested in cartoon ponies and a badly written sequel to an overrated movie, check out The Foreigner, Happy Death Day, and Professor Marstons and The Wonder Women.Marter said:

Somehow I doubt the villain in this movie is much to write home about, considering the first major villain in the show tried to send the whole world into a perpetual night, and the second was a reality-warper who twisted the main town the show takes place in into something resembling Alice in Wonderland on crack. I didn't watch the show after that, so I can't say how the other villains compare, but what the hey...

I don't think it was made for the fans though. It was made for the corporate suits, and it showed.
What even was with the giant talking cat? Cats exist in the MLP universe. They are neither sapient, anthropomorphic, nor twice the size of a pony (the littleness of the pony notwithstanding.)
The same can be said of the giant, leprous parrot pirates, and weird villagers in general. The art style was completely inconsistent and jarring. The ponies went to a far off country, not a Cronenberg dimension.
What were the Storm king's minions even supposed to be? Giant, 'roided out badgers?
The sea ponies didn't even get to say "Shoo be do, shoo shoo be do."
I rate it 4 Nits picked out of 10.

I find it infinitely weird people feel the need to to spend 4 paragraphs crapping on a subsect of Western adults that like a children's tv show because they like colourful stylized depictions of something vaguely equine... aimed at kids.

I don't get the fandom, but I get why it become popular. It's bright, colurful characters that live in a socialist agrarian utopia of plenty. What's not to like?
But after that, I paint the idea of brony culture is more so a self-consuming vacuum of people spending ridiculous amounts of time telling them they shouldn't like bright, colourful equine-esque creatures. And given that fairly juvenile material is marketed to adults all the time there was a similar backlash of people that thought the show was great and not too indifferent from the usual crap we consume, just packaged into a more cross-aged bracket delivery package.

Would have been better if they were talking motorcycles. They should market motorcycles to young girls. You can realistically own a motorcycle in your average technocratic society. Talking, flying, magical motorcycles less so, but suspension of disbelief. I imagine Rarity being an purple STX1300. Upright sportstourer, decent power-to-weight ratio with the factory standard side panel accessories. Modern trimmings, but a classic ST1100 frame and handling that is time tested elegance.
As opposed to the fact that there is people that still watch Fox News. Which is a collection of colourful, stylized depictions of journalists that vaguely resemble asses ... also aimed at children.
I don't get the fandom, but I get why it become popular. It's bright, colurful characters that live in a socialist agrarian utopia of plenty. What's not to like?
But after that, I paint the idea of brony culture is more so a self-consuming vacuum of people spending ridiculous amounts of time telling them they shouldn't like bright, colourful equine-esque creatures. And given that fairly juvenile material is marketed to adults all the time there was a similar backlash of people that thought the show was great and not too indifferent from the usual crap we consume, just packaged into a more cross-aged bracket delivery package.
On it's own it's no more offensive to my sensibilities as the rest of the puerile crap we put on tv, and if you're going to watch puerile crap it might as well be funny and colourful.
Take American_Tanker for instance, the backlash against adults enjoying colourful things is no less silly or stupid than the effort it takes to respnd to every Pony thread I've seen on the Escapist.

the original show-runner said that she designed the characters and the show specifically so adults and children alike could enjoy the show - so parents could bond with their children by enjoying the show together. hell, there are enough adult Transformers fans to make their movies viable, and that started as a toy franchise as well.
The movie was alright, seemed more like a movie-length episode, but it managed to remain on-tone and delivered the pony appeal. More importantly, it managed to rekindle my priorities to watch more pony when I had fallen off the friendship wagon about halfway through season 5. From what I gather, I'm not the only one.
Seems to me like Pony's still alive and well. I guess a lot of the trend followers have moved on, but hey, I was always into MLP:FIM because it was good, not because it was popular. It warms my heart to see it still is popping up on Internet searches, forums, and as avatars on popular image boards. It's well part of our Internet culture now, and I don't think it's going anywhere.
As for the quality of the show, I think Faust was right to say that she left it in good hands, these latest seasons I watched are great. Season 7 just ended, Season 8 is fully into production. I don't know what the viewer numbers look like, but I think it has weathered the transition to the Internet better than most brands, and I think Hasbro knows it.

I never saw that coming from a brony in my neck of the woods. In general, the haters were the ones crying oppression, they felt left out and hated seeing pony everywhere when they weren't into it.

First, I'm disappointed in The Escapist. As someone who's been largely checking in once a week for the new ZP episode, seeing the slow decline from the heyday (with other shows like Extra Credits) to the empty shell it is now is kinda sad. This used to be my gaming news source. But when an article expressly states its intent to upset a certain demographic (which does overlap with some of its readers), directly antagonizing them, I can't do anything but just shake my head at the state of things.
As a fan of the series myself, I will say that I agree the movie is definitely for fans. It assumes you know pretty much everything not new to the movie to begin with, and certainly isn't going to win any people dragged along. That said, as a fan, I greatly enjoyed what was there! It did feel like there was about 2/7ths of a movie missing, since two of the Mane 6 don't really do anything, but I enjoyed it.
Speaking as a fan of visuals, this is the first 2D animated movie I've seen since The Simpsons Movie, a full decade ago. The animation there had nothing on this movie; it was a treat to see (and hear; the music is also pretty on-point) and I do hope more studios try for 2D animation with modern innovations.
As for what seasons are "better", frankly, every season has its ups and downs. Some have more or less, but every season had at least a couple exemplar episodes. I feel like arguing the seasons as a whole isn't very useful, let alone productive.
