Anyone who's been here for awhile will have noticed that I started a few [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.249384-Poll-Calling-all-PC-veterans-AMD-vs-Intel] threads [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.300486-Building-a-Gaming-Rig-The-Final-Build] about building a hardcore gaming rig. And now, on Friday, I will finally go pick up the components and assemble my rig with the help of a friend. I've had to make a couple of changes due to the store I'm buying from not having any stock. Here's the final proposal:

CPU: i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 1280MB Overclocked V2
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Motherboard B3
RAM: G.Skill DDR3-1600 8GB Dual Channel [RipjawsX] F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
PSU: Seasonic S12D 850W Power Supply
Case: Antec Dark Fleet DF-85
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 60GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATAIII
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Expert Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Razer Abyssus High Precision Optical Gaming Mouse

I've already taken into account that this may be overkill, but I expect to get at least four years out of it and this is my best attempt at futureproofing my rig. If you have any other criticisms then I'd like to hear them.

I've heard some nasty things about OCZ SSDs, not that I've used them in the past though.
I don't see much wrong if you can live with that case. It's one of the ugliest I've ever seen and a Silverstone FT02 can give equal cooling (I'm assuming you're going for air), but in the end that's just my personal preference.
Good luck building.

I've heard some similar things, but only about the older OCZ SSDs. The Vertex 3 series has synchronous NAND, TRIM support, and awesome SATAIII speeds. The 60GB is under $150 and great as a boot drive.

And yes, some people don't like the 'heavy duty industrial' look seen in Antec's Dark Fleet Series, but the cooling is definitely of industrial standards. Plus that Silverstone FT02 is $250 while the DF-85 is only $175.

My wallet has already been broken, I can't afford a dollar more.
