My X-box has been E-74'd...I thought they fixed this?

My 360 is E-74-ing. Weren't they supposed to have fixed this? I was just outside the 2 year warranty (like about three or four days), so my mate, with a good IT background had a go a the fix it yourself vids on Youtube. None of it worked.

I hear that if you get them repaired, they come back louder (its already louder than my PS3 and pretty much everything in the room except my girlfriend), and that even "fixed" they're a bit buggy.

While I was considering just biting the bullet and getting it repaired, the cost seems like I'd be better off getting a spanking new Arcade and transferring over.

Anyone been in a similar situation? From people who've gotten it repaired, was it worth the expense?

My Xbox 360 Elite has a Jasper motherboard (the clue is that the power supply reads 12.1 Amps). It is much quieter than the two previous 360s I owned, both of which RROD'd under the extended 3 year warranty. Check Microsoft Xbox support to see if your fault is covered. I doubt that it is, but it doesn't hurt to look. In the end I sold my replacement 360 to my brother and bought an Elite as I could then install most of my games on it (making it even quieter).

I would recommend that you try to hold on to the white gamepad as the black ones aren't as nice - the thumb sticks lack grip.

I hear if you put the cards in the oven it melts the solder and can repair the card, could try that. Might want to check safe temperatures first though. I'd say just get a new Xbox, they arn't that expensive now.

that is not recomended as it can fry everything else in box and ruin it even more.

Actually, me and a friend both did that. Since it was out of warranty, we decided to give it a go. And it worked. It was not a permanent solution, though, we merely managed to extend their lifespan for about 2 more months.

Similar problem. I just bit it and bought an arcade. And traded in the broken one at a different store to offset the cost. They say they are refurbished so I don't feel bad.

Sorry to hear that, man.

While we're on the topic of malfunctioning xboxes, I have a strange issue I wonder if anyone can explain. Sometimes, when I play specific games (Gears of War 2 and Left for Dead 2) the screen freezes, but only the screen. The music and sounds still play, and if I press the xbox guide button, I hear the soft 'voom' of the xbox guide screen opening. After that, if I press it again, or any other button I get no response. However, If I'm in an xbox live party at the time, I can keep talking to them indefinitely, and the sound will keep playing indefinitely. The screen will remain completely frozen though, forcing a restart.

The freezes are near enough random, about once every four of five minutes (enough to make those two games unplayable, unfortunately) and began right after I downloaded the last patch for GOW2 (though whether the two are related, I don't know).

It also crashes more specifically when I enter the multiplayer lobby for the blur demo, almost as soon as I enter it. This is the only reliably reproducible crash I can find.

Many thanks if anyone can shed some light on this one for me, I can't seem find any fix and MS won't fix it since it ain't broke. Massive annoyance at the moment, as you can imagine.
