Ok, if someone can set me straight, that'd be great...

I have a big PS3, like ones at risk. I plan to sign out of the PSN next time I log in but let's say, if I can't get to it in time and it does sign in and I get the error and such...can it be fixed still or is my PS3 permanently screwed up? o_O

Well, that?s? rather annoying.

And no, even if the console isn?t plugged in today, and even if you don?t go online at all, it?s a firmware bug (they?ll have to push out a firmware update and make sure you don?t have to authenticate to get it) so it will happen anyway.

It will very probably also happen tomorrow (when it will be 02/03/2010 and it will think it is either 01/03/2010 or 01/01/2000, I?d have to disassemble to know which but as it is going back in time, either will probably trip it).

There is a good (and unfortunate) possibility that every PS3 made before about December 2008 will have to have a firmware update to function again. The only reason they?re saying ?don?t turn it on now? is because any saves or trophies you have earned since midnight 01/03/2010 will be lost when it re-syncs (maybe, assuming you were able to play anything at all).

I can play Blu-rays, but I can?t play any PS3 game with online content of any kind (including trophies). Manually resetting the clock won?t work, because it will have tripped the time?protection part of DNAS, and deauthenticated the console?s keys (given that no working ?chip? has yet been constructed for the PS3, they may well have to bite the bullet and sign a security module update to blindly reauthenticate everyone and resync, which is probably what the patch will do, on top of fixing the underlying firmware update and resetting the clock via internet or manually). 31/12/1999 00:00:00 is used as a sentinel (it?s timecode 0 to the secure booter, I think?).

Memo to Sony: Years indivisible by 4 are never leap years. You fail chronology forever. And this is what happens when you make DRM too sensitive. Now gief kernel update, give something away to compensate, and grovel like the snivelling muppets you are--and if it isn?t fixed by the time FF13 comes out, I will be? most displeased.

On the up side, I have a backup of everything on there.

This is a serious problem, like some sort of world wide Microsoft 'Destroy the PS3' conspiracy. Here's to hoping everyone's systems will be fixed as soon as possible and you can all get back to gaming.

I say give them time to fix the problem. It's a free service ffs, so don't be like Mr. Agoraphobe/imma sue everyone because I need my feet rubbed.

It's back up now, so we can all go back indoors to our PS3's!

Well I'm back in anyways...my Borderlands trophies appear to be gone though...

Edit: Came back after I loaded up the game...PHEW!

Wow, this explains what happened to my Playstation. Looks like I'm switching to my Nintendo until Sony gets their heads out of their asses.

My 60Gb PS3 ylod'd a few weeks back so after nearly losing my mind I managed to fix it, now it's still running and playing online just fine. Either this is karma, or zombie ps3's are immune :O
Anyone else have a working fat ps3? I want to know how smug I should feel.

Edit: I just remembered that I had a metal doohicky left over after reassembling my ps3, perhaps it is this very piece that Microsoft implanted into the PS3 production line to cause this catastrophe.
*narrows eyes*
I will investigate further....

Yay for my slim! I've already experienced a plethora of problems on several older PS3s, so if one is in a state of non-functionality, then as far as I can see not much has changed. I'd have a go at Sony Europe, but seeing as this seems to be a worldwide issue, I'll just say I hope they get the problem fixed soon.

Here is all of the information i have recived so far...

1) There is world-wide bug that is preventing all "fat" ("fat" meaning older versions sold in 2008) PS3 `s
2) This is not affected on PS3 Slims
3) If you turn on your PS3 "fat" console you will have a chance of keyloggers entering your ps3 and destroying all tropheys and deleting all memory on your console
4) There are signs of telling you that this is happening to your console (explained on second list)
5) Sony is definetly working on this to try and stop this key logger (who is going to be sued arround 8 billion dollars according to my research)Note: this keylogger is NOT Bill Gates
6) Im serious about that bill gates thing!!!! o_O
7) now here is the list of signs telling you if your console is infected (wich every console in the world is so i doubt this will be useful but if your that concerned read on ahead)

LIST OF THINGS TO TELL THAT YOUR PS3 IS INFECTED:

1) Your date should be set to 01/01/00 (January 1, 2000)
2) A message should pop up when you try to use games that have an online feature that says they cant sync your trophies with the system
3) when you sign into the PSN (PlayStation Network) there should be an error 8001050F (or something simillar to that)and it wont allow you to sign in (well it will allow you to sign in but the millasecond you sign in you will be signed out)

7:30 here and all is well, at least here. No problems at all. Even able to connect to PSN.

Sony's just been oh-so-great at keeping everyone updated on this issue! /sarcasm
