Mysterious Bug Cripples PS3s Worldwide

More seriously, I think that both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners should chill out. Saying "Har Har PSN has failed so PS3 suxxx" and "STFU XBOT, enjoy your RROD" isn't going to fix anything.

Let's look at the facts, shall we?

Most of the "fat" PS3s on the planet are now useless. The problem may be fixed as soon as tomorrow, but it's not certain.

A much too high percentage of Xbox 360 consoles experienced a RROD, requiring the user to either pay for the repairs personally, or send it to microsoft, and wait for weeks before receiving a repaired or brand new Xbox 360.

Which one is worse? You decide.

That said, I can't help but snicker. I just got done posting a review of Heavy Rain on my blog stating I thought it was a crime that Heavy Rain is only on PS3, and now I can't play it there either evidently. Will test when I get home from the office. Or not. I did want to review AVP anyway...

Of course, I also look at it this way... I've had my 60GB from the beginning and never had a problem with it (except the rare game-freeze). Years of reliability outweighs a problem less than 24 hours old.

Well said. I haven't had the slightest problem with my PS3 in years of use (not even sure I have one now, too scared to check, but I've got a very old fatty, so odds on I have).

Haven't had it on since last night (before the problem) and not turning it on until it is resolved. Trophies probably won't be a problem as they aren't saved on the PS3 itself (checked mine on playstation.com and everything is up to date, thankfully), so unless people start playing trophy supporting games I guess it won't be a problem. Meh, maybe Sony is just conducting research to see how many PS3 players are addicted going by the number of badly composed complaints they get. Who knows?

Ehhh RROD is far more common - Here's hoping they fix this by, like, tomorrow and then it's all good.

Not to be offensive or anything.But I think that you just jinxed yourself,and now your X-Box360 will RROD after a few days.

Still under warrenty, while my friends PS3 is not so if this problem does'nt work it's self out he's boned.

Hang on a second, is the problem connected with the system itself or the harddrive that it was insaled into it. because I have an old 40 gig ps3 but I upgraded it wiht a new 500 gig harddrive.
