My first instinct was to label this whole idea as crap. Then I watched the trailer. The fight scene between Cage and Baraka was pretty intense, but short. I love the reworked concept and really love the idea of making Scorpion the protagonist, If this is an upcoming movie, I am definitely interested.

Body modification is not body mutilation and as a modified person myself I find his description to be offensive there are a lot of people who have altered their faces much like he has.
You finding baraka offensive is like people finding the twins in transformers offensive.

Ultimately it doesn't matter because its technically the view of a single person that is in the driving seat, you should embrace the free publicity to be honest, the market penetration of a "modification" (or whatever you call it) on a mainstream product is better than you could ever achieve just by yelling at people in the street that "its my choice".

Sorry but people get stuff wrong all the time, especially in films.
No, you misunderstand. Baraka has always been my favorite character and after seeing the new design he's even more so. Having his modifications described as mutilation however is offensive... though I would go as far as to say the blades in the forearms would be mutilation as there's no way that it could be done without causing massive damage and leaving a high risk of infection.
This is what I was alluding too, because its mainstream and from the mind of a committee with one man in the driving seat whose trying to appeal to a broad range of people, that they will try to appeal to the lowest common denominator which is people who don't understand the difference between modification and mutilation.

What body mods have you got?, PM me I'd love to see, I think one of the Escapist's got their tongue slit recently, you know like a snake tongue, pretty impressive!.

Y'know what I just realized? They're ripping off Batman! Yeah, really. Take Reptile (this version of the character, anyway), add six inches and about 130-200 pounds and you've got Killer Croc! They even gave him the cannibalism that Killer Croc has!

I'm sure by now someone else has pointed this out, making me look stupid.

No need for hate. She graduated in '86 and I in 2000. Little bit of an age difference there. Pretty shitty school too. Regardless, she's certainly a bit of hometown hero.

Wah wah wah.

The best part about this is you actually see the fights, none of that Jason Bourne crap where the camera man has a seizure every three seconds.

Tell me where you see "Jason Bourne" as director.

No, it is not.
This isn't Mortal Kombat, this is a dull trailer with a namesteal as it will not have anything to really do with Mortal Kombat at all judging from this trailer.
I love it when hilariously mistaken people try to insult others.

As far as "namestealing" goes, what name is there to steal? Mortal Kombat is shit now. No one likes it. When a franchise is shit, guess what you're supposed to do? Change it. Mix it up. Try to create something new to pique interest. That's what this movie's doing, and, whether it's good or not, they deserve props for trying.
When I look for 'insulting', I see it your posts. You started it with the 'Wah wah wah' comment, and for what? Honestly, it was uncalled for. He isn't the only person not excited for this version of MK. With today's technology, a more faithful film version of the game could be done very well. If thinking so, warrants an obnoxious 'wah wah wah' from some stranger, then I have to wonder.

But yes, this new approach does deserve some kudos for trying something different (not really 'new') but then again, since the designs are so different to the game's designs, does the film even NEED the MK lable? I hope that the people behind the DOA film aren't behind it.

I completely agree with you on the last part but I must admit that this trailer was well done, despite. But most likely even Ed Boon probably signed off on it (if it's official), so what can we do but grin and bear it? Still, I grew up with these games and I would love to see the game universe get a good treatment with today's tech. It won't happen now.

Who gives a crap, it's an awesome looking fighting movie.

Games don't translate into films well, so they're obviously gonna change it around a lot unless you want to watch 2 hours of someone else playing the actual game.

I hate Mortal Kombat on principle (Grammar principles mainly) but this seems pretty cool.

If this gritty modernisation is what they are going for, then they could make Goro, and he could actually be Siamese twins that were born stacked (one body, four arms, two heads or just two brains inside the one skull)

I agree. It just looks like a darker version, that is more evil and gritty. Next thing you know, they are going to come out with a darker version of Mario Brothers. *Movie trailer voice* Two plumbers, must put their lives on the line, to defeat an ancient evil..... Coming soon, from the director of the Boondock Saints, comes, Mario Brothers, the END is Nigh.

The Mortal Kombat movies had 2 crippling flaws. One, they were PG-13. There is no way that you could fit mortal kombat's signature violence into the movie with that kind of choke-chain. The Second problem: it followed Mortal Kombat's story. Now, I know I know, isn't the idea to follow the story?

Well...in this case it was a bad idea. The Mortal Kombat game's have a notoriously convoluted and quite silly story, as often the case in fighting games. Mortal Kombat's "universe" is only there to give an explanation as to why we have certain backgrounds and why the characters are the way they are. Is it entertaining? yes. is it well written? Oh my, no.

So, this movie is actually taking some serious chances, trying to make a coherent decent story out of a game that was built on shock value and comical levels of blood and violence. Will it succeed? We'll see. ^^

alot of people are complaining that this movie only has ties with mortal kombat through name. Yes this movies doesnt follow the story through and through, but there are alot of other connections that are a little more subtle. for example reptile eating ppls heads, THAT WAS HIS FATALITY IN THE FIRST GAME (or second i forget). I mean reptile would throw out his tongue and eat it but ya u get the idea. and in this one they mentioned scorpions clan, they didnt even mention that in the first one. if anything the first one just threw in scorp and sub for the hell of it. This movie is supposed to be to take a more "realistic" approach, so ya i do think that this is the right step for a movie. IF THIS IS A TRAILER FOR A GAME, WELL NO OT WONT WORK. i understand changing the series to fit a movie, but if this was a game it will kill mortal kombat.

whatever they're selling I want it... though it's probably a new movie and I bet the inevitable tie in game will suck... funny ain't it? d:
