Ho-ly-crap...

I know Mortal Kombat is still a popular gaming franchise but I didn't think they'd try to reboot the film franchise again. This is looking to be incredibly promising. The mysticism being replaced by realism is a fascinating way to go about the game. I definitely have my hopes up after seeing this trailer, just hope they don't screw it up a second time.

I don't understand the hate about this. Grow an open mind, people. Stop being so bitter and angry that you can't even let yourselves enjoy something.

OP: I think it loots intriguing, and definitely will have me wanting to watch it. If it turns out to be a movie. If it's a game, I will most likely get it :).

That was insanely well done. Everytime a fan movie pops up I groan a bit while watching something that I just don't see.

However that had everything perfect, it took lots of liberties with the game, instead of making it worse, it adapted it well to it's medium (as should be done, rather than a carbon copy) and speaking as a lifelong MK fan I would proudly support this version (if it were real, however it's a 99% chance it isn't official whatsoever sadly). If they finally do end the development hell of the MK movie I doubt it will be a shred of what the potential for this trailer/preview was.

It looks cool and I'd definetly watch it but I dont like how they changed up the story so much, Scorpions now the good guy...and Im betting Lu Kang is the secret evil bad guy.

Heres a thought...name the movie :Mortal Combat and make it its own franchise and then go ahead and reboot Mortal Kombat like the videogame under its own title as well...a win win

Am I the only one who thought the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie wasn't bad? I am not saying it was particularly good and it certainly was cheesy as hell, but it had good production value and it did well at what it was intended to be, a decent action flick. The sequel, on the other hand, was horrible on all levels...

Anyway, this movie seems to essentially be a more realistic reboot of the original. I actually really like the trailer. That said, trailers sometimes tend to be quite misleading, so we need to wait to see how the actual movie pans out.

Regardless of how it turns out, however, I guess it is time once again for...

You're not alone, I've loved the MK movie since I was a kid, even without the nostalgia goggles on. I just don't understand why it isn't better remembered, it's the only quality game movie I've seen yet, despite that it could be better, it made for a great flick. Has a terrific soundtrack too *goes to listen to it*

Even if it wasn't a video game movie, I'd still be interested in this. It looks solid, and very well thought out. It really tries to go for the realism, which is awesome.

I was never much of a Mortal Kombat fan, but I know most of the characters. This looks badass and I'll most likely go see it. Maybe this will set a higher standard for video game movies to strive for.

Well, they were working on Mortal Kombat 8 so...
(If you count MK vs DC as 8, go away, a spin off is not a main series game)

EDIT: After actually watching the trailer, maybe not. Though they did want to sorta start over with 8. Either way, THATS how you re-imagine. I squealed when they mentioned Noob Saibot. (sorta)

However, Sub-Zero was my favorite character! I thought he was the hero for some reason, didnt Scorpion kill off his entire clan or something?

O wells.
he did but i think it was because sub-zero killed his wife and son.
i THINK it was that. not for sure.

OT: i did not see that reptile thing coming. completely out of the blue. awesome i'm really excited about this!

OH. MY. GOD. That could top any previous record of a great video game movie. If this reboot makes it, it'll probably be the best.

It looks awesome. Really, really awesome. And this is coming from someone who's never liked MK in the past. I want to know what this is!

Sure, MAYBE it's for a new MK movie. (I certainly wouldn't complain if it was.) Even for as good as the video is, something about it just seems so... not Hollywood. I'm seeing subtleties that major studios would get sued over.

A Hollywood studio won't forget about things like a company credit, even on a teaser. It's a matter of money and legality (mainly union stuff). It's generally less of a pain in the ass to give away a spoiler or two in the credits than deal with legal agreements from the hundreds of people involved in production.

My money is on a new game - development studios have pulled this kind of thing off before, even getting name-brand actors in some cases.

Edit: Also, the music at the beginning sounds a bit like the Resident Evil movie theme.

Actually looking at it... you could be right... though I say this with much caution... as is could be a video game movie. The Helicopters at the beginning looked like an obvious CG effect and it did have that 'clean' sort of off look to it that you see in these type of video game promos (or the cutscenes in the need for speed games). However maybe they are doing that intentionally for the video game feel. Even if this is for a game... I'd still be happy, extremely happy... also it would make plenty of sense... I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe on here) that they were attempting to re-boot the series or do something new with it.

This could also explain why Johnny Cage died in it. I'm excited either way.

ur kinda got it a weee bit mixed up sub zero (the first one) killed scorpion on a mission they both had, that was issued out by quan chi(evil sorcerer). quan chi also killed scorpions family and clan and blamed it on sub-zero's. after scorpion died he vowed revenge. he became the vengeful spectre we all know and love, he killed subzero(first one again.) then went after the younger brother(sub zero #2) then in MK4 he learn about quan chis involvment and takes him to the netherrealm(hell). where he torments him. i would go on but u get the idea. o and subzero (#2) became the head of his clan the lin kuei. YAY im a fan!

Kinda seems more like a short film than a trailer, but imdb mentions it and it is cool that Michael Jai White will be in it.

He was from the Dark Knight :D
