Mythic Reassures Gamers Following the EA Massacre

Mythic Entertainment [http://www.mythicentertainment.com/] has posted an open letter to reassure gamers that despite EA's recent Night of the Long Knives, the company remains committed to its games and the people who play them.

It hasn't been a good week for EA. In its quarterly earnings call, the company revealed that another message posted on the Warhammer Herald [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95994-EA-Heavily-Cuts-Jobs-at-Mythic-Tiburon-Black-Box-and-Redwood], Mythic said that despite having its workforce cut almost in half, everyone should remain calm because the situation is under control.

"At Mythic, we remain committed to our games and the passionate people who play them - we're going to continue to deliver the content and service that keeps you playing," wrote Mythic Executive Producer Jeff Hickman. "We want to assure our community that we will maintain the same high level of customer support you've come to expect and continue to improve our games with an exciting schedule of patches, live events and new content."

The venerable Warhammer Online [http://www.uoherald.com/], which "has had a solid first year despite some issues that we're working to address every day."

"We want to thank you again for your continued commitment to our games," Hickman said. "In return, we remain committed to providing you with the best possible gaming experiences and customer support both now and in the future."

It's a good pep talk on the surface, but I'm not convinced that all is well. No company can endure this kind of bloodletting and not suffer from it on some level; it's possible that all three MMOGs will survive but I don't believe for a second that in the short term at least, Mythic's ambitions won't be drastically curtailed.

They will keep going. I think Warhammer will keep going and hopefully keep turning a good profit for Mythic.

They may not have pushed out a product as they had wanted but it was a game far greater than any other MMO I had played on release.

It was the sort of midnight massacre that makes people nervous about the amount of brown they have hanging in their closet.
I giggled. Then I realized what was funny about it & felt just a bit guilty that I did so.

You are a bad, bad man. I love it :D

OT, yeah, uhh... Something's going to give eventually. Sadly, I think it's going to be Warhammer Online, which is a massive shame because it was a good little game.

WAR has just started giving out free subs (up to level 10)... so will probably go back and join in the perpetual tier 1 fighting. But WAR was declining from the word go, and while its a great game that I played alot, it suffers due to the fact there is no mechanic ingame to balance the people, and as people are needed to have fun in RvR, it leaves too many one sided fights, or empty servers :(

Not sure many people will get that reference.

There...now they will ;).
Curses, now if I say I got the reference everyone will think I just looked at the wikipedia article.

Shame about WAR, it's far from perfect but I'd hate to see it end. It deserves better,

WAR is one of those games where they almost had it right, but not quite. I don't think it would have taken a lot of design and programming effort to cross that barrier, but there simply was not the organization, will, or the ability to make it happen. While many performance problems have been corrected, the design and balance flaws that were ubiquitously complained about since release were hardly touched.

Ever wonder why they wouldn't let you duel in a PvP-centric game?

Dueling blows lol. I am glad they left this one out. I remember them talking about it in beta but basically said no and told those that wanted to, to go kill the enemy instead.

They had Dueling in the beta, but by god was it a shitty interface, bunch of /commands to get it even going. Was quite fun though. In the spirit of Warhammer whenever 2 of our guildies wanted the same item that dropped, we had them fight for it. Nothing better than seeing 2 Black Orc's duking it out for some boot's.

WAR was good, and still is good, in the lower tier's, but like every other game I know that's come out recently, they make the fatal error of not realising just how quickly gamer's level nowaday's in MMO's, what you put into the leveling process doesn't mean diddly unless you've got a decent end game to back it up. Which WAR didn't, and the excuse "we'll patch it in later" doesn't cut it. By the time you patch it in, most of your gamer's will have leveled, got bored, and gone off to other games, never to be heard from again. WAR was too short for its own good. Then again on the other end of the spectrum you have the god awful grindfest that is Aion.

Here's hoping that games are like Goldilocks and TOR get's it just right.

All this talk about WAR. If those fools at MyThick put even 10% the effort they keep flushing into war back into DAoC they might just start making a profit.

I cannot speak for the community but those who i know and played DAoC and then Played WAR, those all said they would go back to DAoC in a heartbeat if a new server was implemented.

Mythick had a huge outpouring of support for a new server called Origins, yet it was axed mainly because it would be a direct competitor to WAR.

WAR was fun, but it didn't have enough content for the mid teens and up to keep me occupied. Still, I don't want to see it go; it has a lot of potential left.

WAR was definitely not a WOW-killer, but it was still fun and probably the best alternative to WOW I have ever seen, it just had annoying balance issues and needed some extra polish which ruined what would have otherwise been a great game as it had some awesome game mechanics and unique classes.
