National monument hill blasted...to make way for border wall

To be specific, hills at the Pipe Cactus National Monument are being demolished by both explosives and bulldozers to make way for a 30 foot steel wall along the border.

Quite a few people have protested this action, citing the destruction of saguaro cacti, potential impact on migration patterns, and the tiny detail of the land being considered sacred to certain Native American groups.

Apparently, all that is trumped by a need to keep out dem dang Mexican bastards.

I'll play devil's advocate and point out lots of illegal immigrants die while trying to cross those hills. An impassable barrier dissuading people from trying to cross this death trap would save lives.

I'm guessing that anyone that favours the wall really doesn't care about any of those issues. At best.

I doubt it either, considering some of the stories we hear from the detention centers.

On the other hand, I don't see the wall helping either. Elchappo was famouse for his tunnle networks, there is bound to be a few people that used to work with him still around that have a thing for digging. Maybe less death by exposeure and more deaths by cave ins.

Those barriers that have been put up haven't proved to be impassable.

Well, it's not a Confederate monument built significantly later to be all anti-civil rights so I guess they don't care and it isn't history

This just reminded me of Brass Eye: "Of course there are those who say its vulnerable in a strong wind. But for goodness' sake, who's to say there's going to be a strong wind?"

Are you saying Trump's wall is half-assed? Welp! I shouldn't be surprised tho...
