Why do I get the feeling this reality show, like other reality shows, will only tangentially reflect reality and instead enforce stereotypes and contrived, unrealistic situations for the sake of entertainment?

A real reality show about real "geeks" would be very, very boring.
1) Wake up
2) Actually wake up
3) Check computer
4) Shower
5) Work/School/whatever you do
6) Computer
7) Sleep

Reality shows suck, and I don't think I've ever seen an exception to that rule.

*sigh*

Alright, I'm getting the baseball bats, who wants to get the Molotov Cocktails?

Seriously though, I can already smell the defacing of geeks, this is a bad idea and it should not happen.

NBC. Reality Show. Geeks
No good can come from this.

Remember how reality TV improved public perception of short people, and they're now treated with the same respect you'd expect for any human being?

Yeah... me neither.

Agreed, why are geeks freaking market products all of a sudden? Weren't we social rejects some time ago? Next thing you see is a twilight-style geek romance movie! I'd kill myself!
I don't think it would be that bad. I would love a romance story about a woman and a mecha, and the film would have to be of reasonable quality, (else us "nerds" / "geeks" wouldn't go see it!).

But lets face it, they've exploted every other possible market thats dumb enough to accept the crud they peddle, so they have to try their luck with us.

Why dont they do a reality T.V show about the morons who watch reality T.V?

Another pointless reality T.V show, will probably fall flat on its face.

Yeah, I just find it hard to get excited about a show like this, particularly when it seems like the folks they're focusing on are on the extreme end of geek culture. But that's reality TV for you. It never focuses on normal folk, and producers always look for the outrageous and the strange. The danger here is you're going to get people in the mainstream who think all geeks are like that. And that's just not true (obviously).

Some one beat me to it but the best show about Geeks ever made is The IT crowd [http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-it-crowd].

I guess geek chick is in. You can complain all you want about geek being counter culture but these things spread. Punk was counter culture but became very mainstream.

When I grew up listening to metal and Hardcore would get you into fights. Now there are tonnes of teenagers with died black hair who think its cool listening to Emo, Hardcore and Metal. Put it this way, Computer games are now cool, every status grabbing guy in his 20s/30s has a console, Bullet for my Valentine albums chart, Super Hero movies sell, Comics are becoming cool, shows like the IT Crowd, Big bang theory and Beauty and the Geek are made and shown on major networks. Even wearing glasses is becoming more fashionable, crazy when you think how much eye surgery and contact lenses have come down in price.

Counter culture becomes mainstream culture.

@porschecm2: I do wonder what the intersection of the sets "geek" and "reality TV show viewer" looks like.

Also, what was the percentage of geeks who actually enjoyed the Transformers film?

They are missing out on a golden drama opportunity by not finding a die-hard Marvel fan to pit against the two DC chaps (and Superman, really? That's the flagship property these guys have chosen? His brand hasn't been doing so well lately, even among geeks.)

Train wreck possibilities seem high.

Take 10 guys/gals that fit your bill for a "geek". And make a "reality" show about them.

What could possibly go wrong?

Worst. Idea. Ewuuur.

I'm just rehashing what's already been said, but... honestly, I don't know whether I should laugh or cry...

They can go two routes.

1) "We are real people too!" "No you're not!" "Yes, we are!" [heartwarming music]

2) "We are real people too!" "No you're not!" "OK!" "Hey guys. It looks like we're level 76 virgins with a +92 'Bad around other human beings who aren't on the internet' stat! Oh, man! I just forgot. I haven't logged my required 23 hours a day of Modern Warfare 2/simultaneous viewing of 'The Wrath of Khan' yet!" [laugh track plays]
