Need help with a couple of bugs in GTA San Andreas (PC)

NB: I'm not sure if this belongs in advice or gaming discussion, so feel free to move the thread.

On-Topic: I'm doing the mission "New Model Army" where you're flying the RC helicopter with the magnet attached to it and have to move various objects out of the way as a car moves along a path. One problem, the magnet won't pick anything up, so I can't pick up the plank to bridge the gap in the road, rendering the mission impossible to complete.

Another bug happens when I go beneath the surface when swimming. I just float straight back up and it seems I am unable to swim downwards.

Anybody know of a fix to these problems?

It's the steam version and I'm using Windows 8, if that's any help.

In the case of the RC helicopter, get it close to an object that can be picked up (like, right on top of it), and press the shoot/fire button. (It should be left mouse click by default.) Press the same button again to let the object go.

When under the surface of the water, press and hold the 'sprint' button instead of the 'move forward' button. That will cause CJ to move forward underwater.

No problem!

It's definitely a case of the controls not exactly being very intuitive.

I'm still having a problem with swimming though. I'm hitting the sprint key like there's no tomorrow, but I just go straight up to the surface again. Any solutions?

EDIT: Found a workaround, turning the frame limiter on lets me stay under water, but it means I'm locked at 30FPS
