A monumentally enormous bed of it has grown up in the garden without any of us noticing. It's too thick and well-established for the regular weed killer, but the heavy brush killer would kill the plants that I want to have there.

Suggestions?

Disposable tyvek suit, disposable gloves, and possibly a respirator. Cut the vines close to the soil, then apply your weed killer of choice (we use the ortho stuff marketed as a poison ivy killer). Might take some time though to get it all. Also, clean your shears with rubbing alcohol when you're done.

If you apply poison directly to a cut part of the plant stem before the sap seals it(like how peoples blood scabs but you cant see it easily on plants) you can pretty easily poison just one plant in your garden. When I was in Greencorp doing enviromental work weeding non native plants in the bush without hurting the natives we had these bottles of glyphosate mixed with dye with a squishy sponge top, you cut the plant and dabbed poison on the cut and it was dealt with because the poison got sucked up inside the plant. Plus apparently glyphosate is neutralised by contact with the soil and harmless to people.

Though I live in Australia and have never seen poison ivy so I dont know much about it.
