For my next few reviews, I intend to write them about applications for the iPod Touch and iPhone, as I possess the former. Naturally, these will be as close to a full review as I can manage.

It is important to note that I don?t buy the ?full? versions, only the free ones.

My first review is based on Playforge?s Zombie Farm, a spiced-up replica of the famous Farmville. Gameplay is almost identical to the Zynga counterpart, with the player controlling a virtual farmer through tapping the screen for various actions. Tap a field to open the market menu, tap the crop you want, and tap where you want to plant it. Then you wait the allotted time, load up the game again and harvest the crops for the money. Now repeat this with variations on the type of crop.

The first noticeable advantage over the Facebook-oriented apps is the offline mode. You can connect the game to your Facebook account, and publish various notifications on your wall, and gain advantages from the amount of friends you have. This is to be expected. If, however, you plant a crop that grows in two hours, and you suddenly find yourself far from a Wi-Fi connection, you can still save your crops from certain doom.

From this initial description, it?s only natural to assume that Zombie Farm is as different to Farmville as Farm Town. But, the key difference that gives this game its name is the zombies. You plant zombies just like any crop, only instead of receiving money for harvesting them, you gain the zombie. They come in many different types, and are used for one thing.
Invasions.
Every few hours, you have the option to attack a neighbouring CPU-controlled farm, where your undead legions battle their farmhands, then ransack the place, earning you money, experience and the chance to win a Brain.

Brains in Zombie Farm are the Playforge equivalent to Farmville Cash, in the sense that you pay real money to buy extra stuff. It?s really just different words for the same things.
The concept of Brains holds another thing I prefer to Zynga. In Farmville, to gain a reasonable chance to buy some of the exclusive items, you either had to save up your Cash over a ridiculous amount of time, or pay real money for it. Zombie Farm offers the exclusive items for smaller amounts of Brains, and makes them a little easier to access with a little patience.

In short, Zombie Farm is the slightly more exciting version of the generic Zynga game. The good points? You can play it anywhere, so your crops are unlikely to wither, saving you the frustration of repeating ploughing, and the exclusive items aren?t quite so hard to attain. The inclusion of the Invasion feature is barely noticeable, in my opinion. I ditched the zombies and converted all of my land to cornfields.
The bad? It?s basically Farmville for your pocket. Like the world needs any more of those.

I really regret getting a droid phone right now. I'd rather have no apps and be happy then have crappy apps and look at the Iphone apps and be jealous.

Congrats on a good review.

I really quite like the Free App A Day thing they've got going on for the iPhone. It's like a random app that is free for one day only. Perfect for reviewers, don't you think?

I believe I'll stick to my Xbox for a bit longer...
Yikes...

Good review. Although I didn't read all of it as I am in a rush.
10 min recess until next class.

I'm trying to get my hands on all the apps I can, 'cause I have a stupid amount of free time away from home.
