Not a big loss. I just went through their selection of Starz movies. Most of them look pretty crappy.

That's unfortunate. Starz had some decent new releases that came onto Netflix every now and then - pretty much the ones you'd go out of your way to rent. This may be a sizable hit to the service.

Starz, your not getting anymore money for your crap back catalog. You wonder why cable is going down the drain and piracy is rocketing to the moon?

Really, streaming is the way to go, I recently actually found a show on ITV I wanted to see, but I'm damned if I'm going to be summoned at certain days and times in front of my TV.

So I go to their site and stream it, it's not great quality, but really, unless you're watching a few specific genres of entertainment, quality isn't THAT important.

It was a 45 min show, with SIX 3 minute ad breaks.

I actually didn't mind tho, I figured extra ads were a fair price to pay for free access at my own convenience. I don't particularly want to sit thru about eighteen minutes of ads, but it's worth it to see what I want to see.

What I don't understand is why companies with an international presence don't get in on the Daily Show and the like. (I do realise there's other legal reasons to why it can't just be available to the UK, such as idiotic laws about showing Parliament for the purposes of satire or parody).

I see that companies like Walmart and Wendy's don't really have any reason to pay for ads to UK viewers, but what about all the international companies?

Also, I'd happily pay to see things like 'Walking Dead' a day or two after its premiere, instead of having to wait for an eventual UK DVD release.

Stephen Fry made a very good point about piracy, that if content was made affordable, and most importantly, EASY to pay for and recieve, then many, many pirates would find themselves paying for content. Sadly, at present, providers are locking their goodies away and putting up more and more barriers between customers and the content.

Great, because I'd rather watch the same movie for seven days straight, via Starz, then watch what I want on Netflix. Not.

I gave a Netflix a try, but it was pretty clear to me after a while, that Netflix was losing (or didn't have enough) of their licensing rights for movies. Considering they have a huge pile of crap to sort through before you can find anything good.

Starz must be playing hardball with everyone. I have Dish Networks 200+ plan and Starz was on the 250+ plan. Well it's no longer on that tier and is now another premium package like HBO and Showtime. We have WOW as a low cost cable option in our area and they have the Starz channels standard in their top tier. I wonder if that will disappear too?

Starz is positioning themselves as a premium provider like HBO and Showtime by creating their own programing. We'll see how far they go.

Man, I guess I'd care if I didn't work for Comcast and get all the free cable I want, but I don't care and I do get it all free!!!!

Anyway, I guess this is just another little straw on the camel's back towards determining if Netflix is worth it or not.
Comcast and it's bandwidth caps will help to destroy Netflix as well but I guess that's the point of the bandwidth caps isn't it. BTW, your cable isn't free, you get to watch commercials.

They're taking the blame for it because it's entirely their own fault.

With Netflix essentially doubling its prices for all of its customers, Starz likely figured they deserved a bigger piece of that financial pie....
They could have just kept their price down to what it was before, and lose money and go out of business as an alternative. I understand that Netflix had to raise their prices, and I understand why they did. I can't fault them for it. Once you have a business that doesn't make any money, it stops being a business, and it's a hobby.
Yeah I am sure they are doing terrible right now, with the way they completely destroyed all their competition and all. You know, wiping out video stores all throughout the nation.

"This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content," the Starz CEO said.
In other words:
"Why aren't you price gouging them!? Fuck it, we're pulling out to do it ourselves!"

Having just gone through 864 items listed on the Starz Play page, I can honestly say... meh. There are a lot of old singing cowboy movies, a lot of B and C movies that would never have seen DVD release (much less theatrical), and a lot of Perry Mason. If that's what we're losing, I couldn't care less.

I saw maybe three or four things on that whole list I might have wanted to watch. We're not losing much.

Netflix really needs to ramp up the original content. The more they get away from the "old world" the more they free themselves from this kind of bullshit.

Really Netflix and Google should get into bed and form a nationwide ISP. If they could charge the same price as cable internet for netflix streaming + a reasonable bandwidth then the old media world couldn't compete.

If not Netlfix then Youtube. Doesn't make a lot of difference to me, just means I need to change the page every fifteen minutes.

This is a gigantic "eff you" if I ever saw one. Suddenly Amazon Prime's lookin' pretty good.

Ok, I'm done. I put up with the crappy redesign and the price hike, but I watched the Starz movies all the time.

Good luck with the downward spiral, dicks.
What, would you prefer another price hike for them to keep Starz? I'm unsure how it's their fault that Starz doesn't renew with them.
I really don't care if it's their fault; as a customer I can still be pissed. To make an analogy, if I walk into a restaurant and the place is redesigned in a terrible way, the prices for everything have been raised, and on top of that, my favorite menu items are unavailable, I'm not going to be a satisfied customer. It doesn't matter if it was the supplier's fault, it still adds to an already unpleasant dining experience, and I wouldn't want to go back.

I'll stick to RedBox, thank you.

If I was netflicks I'd be saving up my pennies and start looking for 1) content they can buy/have made to stream exclusively on netflicks. 2) open their service up to smaller lesser known indie like studios who could never get their stuff on TV.

What would of happened years ago if instead of fox Firefly was picked up by netflicks or Dollhouse? I would like to see netflicks start funding the stuff that studios are unwilling to take a risk on or think 'aren't marketable enough' because when studios do that they look at time slots and where they can put it and a whole host of factors that netflicks just doesn't have to deal with.

And yes that's pretty much it. This situation isn't so different from the Steam and Origin situation. All it would take now is for stars to open their own subscription based streaming service. Which honestly I'll expect to happen with some of the content providers that use netflicks now in the next few years.
