I'm 26 years old, male, and I'v never been on a date. Atleast not a "date" as they are frequently portrayed on TV (dinner and a movie, meet for a cup of coffee, etc).
Don't get me wrong, I'v had relationships, and I'v had sex, I'v just never "dated". What the hell do you do on one? What counts?

Any activity with someone where there is a stated (or reasonably assumed) romantic interest/mutual attraction, but before there has been an agreement in terms of monogamy/exclusiveness, is a date.

I kind of spitballed that, so if it falls apart under close examination be gentle.

So no matter what you do, where you are, if you are meeting up at X place and both have romantic or are interested in some way - or possibly interested - it is a date?

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part I'd say yes.

Huh. That's sort of..Disappointing. I had hoped for my first real "date" being..Dunno, something else.
I guess I'v had plenty of dates then, by that criteria.

A date is a specific point or segment in time, usually denoted by day, month and year in the common era calendar. It does not include a particular time of that day, usually, so it can be rather vague.
I don't exactly know how you'd "go on" a date, though. I, at least, have not mastered 4-dimensional movement yet, so I'm kind of stuck "going on" the dates as they happen along a linear timeline.

Well, I was using the loosest/most encompassing definition possible. If you want something more structured, do feel free to adapt a more formal definition of date. For example, I wouldn't recommend telling a new girlfriend you were going to take her on a date and then spend 3 hours running errands with her.

Would have been funny if the OP wasn't very clear on exactly what he meant by the term "date".

Well, what does on do, then? The Dinner/movie-jargong feels very..eh..Old? Not very romantic at all.

Jeez I dunno. Some...activity. Something you think she'd enjoy, or you'd enjoy together. A concert. A walk in a park. A trip to a zoo or aquarium. A day on the beach. A hike. There's lots of shit two people can potentially enjoy in one another's company. Dinner and a movie is just commonplace because a great majority of people enjoy food and movies.

I don't think it has any particular meaning other than you are seeing each other for romantic purposes, where and what are you doing is kind of irrelevant, you can have a date at you're house just for playing games and it would still be a date, it doesn't really mean anything other than it's a meeting for romantic purposes, and since what's romantic varies from person to person, well it doesn't really mean anything.

I feel obliged to quote Enchanted, as it actually has a pretty cool definition of the word 'date'.

"You go someplace special. You know, like a restaurant, or a movie, a museum. Or you just hang out and you talk."
"What do you talk about?"
"About each other. About yourself. About your interests. Your likes, your dislikes. You talk!"

A date is a planned event between two or more people at a planned destination, activity and time.

So a date is what you make it really.
