Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate Coming Next Week

Neverwinter Nights 2 [http://www.atari.com/nwn2/mow/US/], will finally see the light of day next week.

Mysteries of Westgate will add roughly 15 hours of new adventures in the Forgotten Realms city of Obsidian [http://www.raflar.com/fantasyrpg/westgate-background.php]) Studios, the expansion will feature new content including "professionally voice characters" and a brand new score.

The expansion has a bit of a controversial history. It was originally slated for release in fall 2007 and was completed on schedule, but Neverwinter Nights 2 forum [http://www.atari.com]. "Unfortunately, developing this system has taken longer than we anticipated and MoW's release has suffered as a result, because it is the first product that will use this new system."

A year and a half later, "longer than we anticipated" is looking like a bit of an understatement. But Atari says the wait is now over, and no kidding this time: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate will be available via the Atari Store [http://www.atari.com/us/games/neverwinter_nights2_mysteries_of_westgate/dvd_rom?dd=1] on April 29 for $9.99.

Wait...so... rather than get the cash from sales and good will, they wasted 1.5 years on DRM-wannabe software and god knows how much cash and lost good will from customers?!?

The expansions for NwN2 haven't really impressed me so far--but the original game didn't impress me much, either. If they aren't making any systemic changes I'll probably give Westgate a miss.

DEEKIN WRITE BOOK ABOUT ME!!! DEEKIN BRAVE KOBOLD!!! DEEKIN FACE DRAGON WHILE ... i drank tea :(

Personally, I would rather get Dragon Age now. Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer was epic though, can at least give Obsidian credits for crafting a wonderful story for it.

Yeah, that dreaded spirit bar was why I never played the game twice. At least my Epic Wizard finally settled down in West Harbor. :)

Atari treat affiliated companies like Ossian (and ex-Troika) like crap for experimentation. There's no logical reason to delay a release by 18 months and stick on a 3 install limit activation, but Atari are doing it to see how fans react.
Stardock made a good choice to stay well clear of them.

Hopefully the DRM won't be to drastic. I adore NWN2 despite it's inferiority towards NWN1. Anybody knows something about the character levels this will be playable? I would love to play an epic wizard again :).
