New Arkham City Screens Reveal Batman/Bane Partnership

There's no shortage of people who want to hurt Batman in Arkham City, but luckily, the Dark Knight doesn't always have to fight alone.

If you need someone to watch your back, someone who once broke your back probably wouldn't be high on your list. Unfortunately, when you're a masked vigilante trying to keep order in a prison filled with hardened criminals and murderous psychopaths, you don't always have a choice, as Batman discovers when he and Bane are forced to team up to fend off a gang of gun-toting assailants in Arkham City.

A new screenshot for the game shows Bane and Batman back-to-back surrounded by gunmen, showing that even the Caped Crusader needs a little helping hand from time to time. It's not clear who the gunmen are, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were Arkham City guards under the control of Hugo Strange. Other screenshots show Catwoman beating the snot out of people, a heavily tattooed, one-armed man, and Batman armed with the shotgun version of the "Remote Electrical Charge" device, which - among other functions - acts like an area effect taser.

It seems pretty clear that Arkham City's story is going to have its fair share of twists and turns, stuffed full of shifting loyalties and schemes within schemes. Of course, that's not a bad thing; in fact, it's exactly what you expect in a prison stuffed full of master criminals and crazy people.

Batman: Arkham City comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 18th.

I think the one-armed guy is KGBeast (best name ever), but he is usually depicted missing his left arm, and only to about the elbow. But the guards outfits have quite a Soviet feel to me (if the 2 pics are connected) and "possible KGBeast" has a big red star as a tattoo so it's possible.

I never liked bad guys joining the good guys to defeat other bad guys but Bane and Batman sounds pretty awesome so I want be a sceptic.

I'm not particularly a fan of the Bane model, but I'm not surprised at all by the team up.

Just as long as this is genius Bane, and not Movie/Idiot Bane. Of course I'd prefer secret six Bane the most, but one can't exactly have everything. Though if bane is making an appearance, does that mean that Arkham State will have Az-Bat in it I wonder.

Definitely a game I'm looking forward to. I certainly enjoyed the first, despite the fact that I know next to nothing about the Batman mythos--though the game certainly remedied that, at least a bit! I'm hoping this one will prove to be just as fun and interesting for those of us who don't really know squat about Batman.

Also, noticed that one of the tags says "xbox 350" rather than "360".

Is the taser/shotgun a Batman Gadget or something he took from a guard?

Wooo! A team-up would hint at the traditional genius Bane I love so much rather than the stupid movie Bane that shouldn't have existed.

Awesome, let's get a little hype going for Bane, especially since he's going to be in the next movie.

The Fugitive.

A team up between Batman and Bane doesn't seem that far out there. While Bane has his pride, he is a very intelligent person in the comics and it would be more than reasonable to have him put his conflict with Batman on hold to defeat Strange or someone else.
Plus, there is that whole "Batman saved him (kind of) when he was essentially being sucked dry by the Titan Project." Pride works both ways.

While this is pretty cool but wouldn't this confuse some people when the Dark Knight Rises come out (those who aren't into comics)? I know the they did team up somewhere in the comic in the past.

True, but Bane was pissed off because Batman was the reason he was there in the first place.
