The last game took itself too seriously, so I'm glad this one seems to be a deliberate return to retarded fun; unbearable if you play it on your own, but absolutely perfect to play with a mate. A definite weekend rental for me and my buddy... lots of laughs will be had. ^^

It's SOOOOOOO totally got some racism in there JUST because they made that line about the taco.

totally racist, just cus taco + brown people.
Really, you're the racist one for making that connection as well, then.

This thread is not worth my time now. bye.
I honestly didn't think of that until you mentioned that. Racist.

OP: I think that this is the developers purposefully acting without restraint, making a game that's on the campy side of fun. I doubt it'll be a parody, but it sure as hell isn't playing it straight, either.

I like it, let's see how the gunplay holds up.

-What I can only describe as "Exaggeration of the Black Ops II villain during his machete rampage" kicks a grenade near one of his "troops" with a bit of a comedic pause.
-Unarmored, slim-figured attractive not-as-brown woman is the "backup" for Alpha and Bravo against "Grenade Kick McGee."
-The villain slowly walks towards the three characters, somehow never being shot. Also is not caught in big explosion after Alpha/Bravo (Impossible to tell who's who as it's never made clear) says "Adios" like it's clever.
-Unfunny and mildly racist line about tacos.
-ALL the wanton destruction with beat up vehicles and guns to make it "gritty."
-No implication of any sort of plot aside from "Shoot everything in Mexico."
Allow me to explain these.

Machete villain is a fucking psychopath, as shown by his murdering one of his own troops.

The woman is unarmored because she's not a full time mercenary, she's an agent/informant in the vein of James Bond. On the subject of her not being brown, does every game and piece of entertainment really need to have a rainbow of skin colors? Should one of the characters be a wheel-chair bound man who kicks just as much ass as the heroes because he's "handi-capable"?

Villain walks menacingly towards protagonists and doesn't die. Kind of a staple of the action movie genre. Alpha/Bravo says "adios" because it is slightly clever in an action movie one-liner sort of way.

Character makes a quip about tacos, implying he's hungry and would enjoy a tortilla-shell treat, as would I after giving half the population lead poisoning.

Wanton destruction is apparently "gritty" now. Cause you know, explosions and car chases, the darkest and most angst-filled recesses of the human heart.

No implication of plot because it's a two minute trailer, and it's an Army of Two game, which means they don't get too much into stories, preferring to throw the characters into situations and then just let them react to it.

Personally, this trailer isn't so bad as everyone makes it out to be. I like the Army of Two series, but honestly, why does everyone care so much about a stupid system of political correctness? Yes the characters are white, yes the plot is two mercenary sociopaths living in a Tarantino movie, yes there is a lot of violence and gunfighting, but when did that become a bad thing? I actually like the characters, Rios and Salem had a real bond as warriors and non-blood-brothers, and the fact that they didn't make Alice the generic love interest is a reason I love the series. Their dialogue is pretty good, with Salem trying to be a mercenary with a conscience while Rios is jaded enough to feel nothing when killing for money.

"Some non-white people got shot in the trailer, that means it's racist!" is the jist I've seen from this forum so far, but I bet that if we were talking about Call of Duty, you'd be complaining that you were killing Russians. I would. I like Russians.
But so far, it's only shown that you're fighting the cartels, whose soldiers consist of mass-murderers, hitmen, psychopaths, and enforcers of a horrific regime that holds the people of Mexico in terror and constant warfare. It's like saying Django Unchained (awesome movie by the way) was racist because all of the white Americans were shown to be horrible racist bastards who say "******" and hit slaves. Would you prefer if they set the action in Mexico, and had all the bad guys be white? Or if they set it in America and fought the Crips or the Bloods?

Political correctness is not only an inane waste of breath, but it only serves to engender feelings of difference between peoples of all races. Look at the trailer, and realize that you're being far far too sensitive about this. I'll be right with you guys chanting hatred if this pulls a Call of Juarez, but for now, stay calm, and get excited for a good game from a good series.

That trailer is very meh and typical of what I think of those Army of Two games. It's bros vs the world and for some reason that doesn't appeal to me. Shame in a way as I do really like co-op games but this series just doesn't do it for me.

Something something, must be all EAs fault.

I'm sure people can make the connection between Mexican gang and Mexican food. The human race has hope for intelligence yet.

To be honest this was my first look at the game and they look like they have the same build as the other two, so I never bothered asking if it was different people. Just figured the voice actors changed

For the uninformed, Poe's Law can be described as "The more extreme a piece of media it is, the more difficult it is to tell whether it's parody or legitimate without outside confirmation." Now watch this new "Overkill" trailer for ArIIIy of Two: The Devil's Cartel in which the new main characters Alpha and Bravo shoot a bunch of brown people.
Hold it right there.

In an average game, do you care, or even notice, when the cannon-fodder NPCs are white? If the answer to that is "no" , then why do you assume that there must be a racist element as soon as nonwhite enemies turn up?

The game might be racist. Who knows? I haven't played it and neither have you. This is the kind of achingly trendy political correctness that really winds me up: pre-emptively casting accusations of racism whenever a nonwhite NPC pops up (or if all the characters are white), and pre-emptively muttering about sexism and misogyny when a female pops up (or if all the characters are male).

And then we wonder why games companies tend to tread such over-familiar ground with recycled plots and hackneyed cookie-cutter enemies. Well, because they're lazy capitalist pigs, that's why, but the knee-jerk hollering and seal-clapping of the perpetually offended sure as hell doesn't help creativity to run free and unfettered.

Of course it's retarded.
It doesn't need to be anything different, so it won't be. Unless there's someone with ARTISTIC VISION for GREAT PERSONAL GLORY in mind, in which case it might be a subversion. Probably not though.

They're still making these games? I tried playing the first one, but the utterly shitty gameplay ruined it for me. The first Mass Effect was a better third-person shooter, for chrissakes.

Anyway, I can only hope this is the flop that finally sinks EA. Looks utterly generic, and has all the same fucked-up subtext of every other modern military shooter bar Spec Ops: The Line. "Wooh, yeah! We're shooting people! Damn, we're good! Yeah, we be all up in here, shooting us some gangsters!"

Utterly predictable masculine power fantasy. Designed to appeal to the base craving for violence, without offering any insight into just how fucked up conflict is. The Cartel situation in Mexico is beyond fucked up. The stuff going on there is the stuff that would haunt your nightmares. For them to take the situation and turn it into a bro-shooter is just tacky, tasteless and trite.

Sometimes you have to stop your overly pretentious criticism and just take the game at face value. If it's fun, it's fun. Games don't need deep storylines and amazing writing. Sometimes bros shooting dudes with explosions is all you need.
Yeah, funny thing... just because a game, or any other piece of entertainment, doesn't have particularly high aspirations, that doesn't mean it becomes exempt from analysis and criticism. If a game has seemingly racist subtext, and an offensive depiction of a real life humanitarian crisis, then damn right people are going to take it apart.
This... Excellent break down of this utterly generic shooter, that will probably flop considering it's releasing in March against superior titles.

Your avatar is from fate/stay night isn't it? Just the sort of creepy porn the attention starved basement dwelling weebo crowd are looking for.
*end of blatant sarcasm*
Have I made my point about why painting with broad brush dipped in bile is a bad thing? Me and the friends I played the past AoT games with are about as far from "douchebag energy-drink bros" as you can get, do you still think we are assholes because we like AoT?

OT: Army of two has always been absurd and over the top and as someone who actually enjoys that kind of vaguely self aware absurdness I like that, my bigger issue is that the gameplay is budget level and not anywhere near worth launch price. The constant whinging about "racism" is fun though. I have to wonder exactly who those people would be happy with as villains.

That machete guy is pretty determined, I want him to win just because he put so much effort into looking angry and walking slowly.

Ugh. Stop using the term "spunkgargleweewee". It wasn't funny the first time Yahtzee used it, it isn't funny now.

Well that's a little harsh, don't you think? Personally, I most likely won't play this game, but I wouldn't insult the people who like this kind of stuff.

Also, I like energy drinks. *hrumph*

Pretty much this. It's kinda annoying how some people on here cry "racist" whenever they see something they don't like.
