New Cities: Skylines DLC Will Feature Art-Deco Inspired Creations from a Modder

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1345/1345216.jpgParadox is preparing to release an official DLC for Cities: Skylines that's filled with content from a community content creator.

Paradox is well known for it support of community created content for Cities: Skylines. Perusing the game's Steam Workshop page reveals over 90,000 pieces of community-created content, and Paradox is about to double down on that support. The company is preparing to release a new DLC comprised completely of content from a community creator.

Titled Content Creator Pack: Art Deco, the DLC will feature original Art-Deco inspired buildings from community member Matt "Shroomblaze" Crux. Paradox will provide an initial payment to Crux to cover the cost of production, and Crux will also receive a share of the revenue from the sale of the DLC.

Speaking of the new DLC, Crux said, "After over 3,400 hours in Cities: Skylines, it's wonderful to have my own buildings become part of the game's landscape. Because the Art Deco era is so highly regarded as one of the best building styles of history, I think it needs to be represented as such. I made the suggestion to Paradox Interactive and they allowed me to come up with the buildings of my choice. I'm eager to see what the rest of the community thinks of them."

The Content Creator Pack: Art Deco will be available next week, and will include six residential buildings, six commercial buildings, and three unique buildings. There's no price announced yet, but I'm sure we'll hear what it is soon enough.

There should be a trigger point that if you recreate Gotham, the city suddenly turns into The Animated Series. Its always nighttime, there's always rain and jazz music and every now and then Batman happens.

Or I'd settle with black/white Sin City vibes, were if you zoom in on a character they're narrating to themselves. And its always nighttime, there's always rain and jazz music.

There is a natural disaster expansion coming, so you could probably work Batman in there.

If there's one flaw in Cities Skylines (among some other things), it's that without mods the defaults cities don't ever have a sense of grit to them. Aside from maybe abandoned structures, every single building has a plastic toy-box look to them with barely a speck of dirt or blemish. I suppose that's the intention, but it just doesn't have an atmosphere of a real, living city, and that's one of the things that Sim City 4's still got over this game.

Where's the uproar? This is just a paid mod. Very lazy.

I bought this game but I regret it and will never buy anything from this developer again. Shallow as hell gameplay and not a single improvement on it.

"Not a single improvement"....just speaks about your personality. You're one of those 'I deserve everything' entitled that this generation has so predominately spawned in excess of. You paid for the base game and everything that came in the box. They are not obligated to, nor should based on demand alone, do any "improvements" for those that have purchased the game. Expansions and EXTRA WORK on the product -a game which was far below base retail price anyways- should be compensated for via extra charge. See, this is how it works in the real world: People do work as a PAID SERVICE. Products, things, content, all are created through a person's JOB which pays a SALARY in order to PAY BILLS. Things do not come for free.

Anyway.

I like the approach. But as Ldude said, these, too, look unbearingly tidy and like Playmobil buildings. Also, I hope that there are more than just a few buildings. If this is a DLC, it then needs to be a fully-fledged theme with some variety at least in the amount to what the base game offers per theme.

Nonetheless, I really dislike this style. But that's just my taste. Nothing against it objectively. Except that, imo, it's more of the same base game theme.

Future theme... dystopian future a la Blade Runner -theme... with future infrastructure... just saying...
